Subject: Feedback on my parenting skills
Posted by Tammy on November 24, 1998 at 18:24:54:

I have been steadily reading glidergossip since the beginning of October and I am very
delighted to read all the wonderful advice and feedback the more experienced owners and
breeders are willing to share.

I have owned my two darlings for nearly a year and love them dearly. My male was purchased
as a younster, and my female was a rescue victim (her previous owners treated he like a hamster).
Although I've not had the benefit of this page before now, I thought I was doing okay, but
sometimes I'm not too sure.

Maybe I just got lucky and my maternal instincts must have kicked in, because a lot of how I
handle the kids wasnt told to me, it just seemed right. They've both bonded to me and appear
healthy and happy. The male even comes to his name when he's not in a pissy mood.

I do have a vet for exotic animals, who also owns a 24hr emergency clinic

I have the kids in a cage that is 19x19x36, with perches, a pouch, and guinea pig wheel. Their
cage is cleaned weekly, and the gliders donot have contact with the pine shavings on newspaper
due to the floor grate.

I play with them for at least 20min in the morning before I leave for work and stay up at least
an hour after they get up in the evening. Their playtime is always supervised, and a room has been
"gliderproofed"

Their nightly diet is a mix of romaine & spinach with various other in season fresh fruits and vegetables
and I leave AccueFeed mixed with Dried fruits, dried veggies, finely chopped nuts and glider booster
for snacking. And finally they have strawberry hummingbird nectar to drink (98% colour free), as they dont
seem to appreciate plain water.

I cant bring myself to feed them crickets, mealworms, or other living creatures. They've never been
exposed to that type of food, and seem to be doing okay on their current diet.
They eat all but a tiny amount of their fresh evening fare. Their stool is solid and relatively odorless,
and they themselves dont stink

Plese dont think I'm paranoid or immature. This glidergossip is new to me.
I think I'm just looking for a little reassurance from the experts out there
