Subject: Looking for suggestions

I am looking for some suggestions regarding the following problem. My gliders have a wood nest box,(they also have a pouch but since the babies have some OOP they have prefered the nestbox)
Anyway, I usually have it hanging from the top of the glider cage. When the babies came OOP, I put the nest box on the floor to make it easier for me to open the top of the box to get the babies out.
Well, my problem is that since I have moved the box to the floor, I noticed that even right after I cleaned the cage out, I could still smell the glider smell. I started trying to figure out what was happening, and finally realized that it is because the urine is starting to collect and soak into the lid of the nestbox.
So my husband and I are trying to think of something to put on the top of the nestbox to make it so it does not soak in. I thought of alot of things, but fear that my gliders will nibble on them and have problems.
I know if I put some kind of bedding up there, it would be IN the nestbox the next day. The only thing I can think of is maybe trying to find a nontoxic paint and painting the top. I really dont even know if there is such a product out there and so I am looking for ANY suggestions.

The other thing I wanted to ask was if Febreeze is safe for gliders. I have heard of some people who use it in cages but was not sure if it was safe for them.

I really appreciate any help and hope someone can offer me a good, safe, tip to keep my babies home clean of urine.

Brooke
