First of all thanks for your list of safe trees, I've been looking for something on that topic. But I'm puzzled. Everything I have read on it so far says that you should not use coniferous trees such as pine, cedar, fir and redwood because they have such heavy resin like sap.
: You could try bird cage perches, but here are some safe trees you can use: Apple, arbutus, ash, aspen, beech, birch, cottonwood, crabapple, dogwood, elm, fir, hawthorn, larch, madrone, magnolia, manzanita, pine, poplar, redwood, willow. DO NOT USE: apricot, peach, plum, prune, nectarine, almond, black walnut or cherry. the first five belong to the prunis species and can release cyanide when ingested.
