Hello all moderate, professional, and normal suggie owners! I'm new here, I've been on the forums here so much though, just never had an account! Yesterday, I got my first 2 boys, brothers. After 1 year of research (Suggie Homework) and I finally found a perfect 2 1 y/o boys with cage, lamp, toys, and everything. First off, I just wanna say some things.. I think the wodent wheel is a safety hazard, now that's just MY opinion.. But I mean I saw one glider sticking his head in from the OUTSIDE, and the other started running and it looked like he was gonna break his neck, but got his head out like halfway through the first spin... Why does the wodent wheel have holes!? To cause glider injuries?! I'm gonna order this instead: atticworx.com/1Stealth%20Wheels.htm (Stealth Wheel) I heard it's better. Also I heard your not supposed to touch them or anything in their first 2 days, but it's SOO hard because their just so cute, and I had to pet them a couple of times, and feed them apples and mango, and their favorite stuff, they loved it. Also I'm waiting for my HPW powder and Australian pollen to arrive. So I can make them a nice ice-creamish HPW meal. I can't take seeing them eat the dreaded disgusting pellets. ALL OF THEM STRAIGHT TO THE GARBAGE AS SOON AS HPW MATERIALS ARRIVE! Because the guy who I bought them from is stupid, and fed them some PPP pellets, I mean pellets are bad enough but PPP pellets. Horrible mill neanderthals. So yeah, and so I fed them, played a lil with them in their cage, at first they started tasting my finger, and slightly biting it, no chattering noise yet. Now they're sleeping, (Daytime here) and one is sleeping under my shirt in his cage, made himself nice and cozy, and the other one is in LOVE with his wheel, he's SLEEPING there, even with a sleeping hammock on top, some soft green fleece cloth, he loves his wheel THAT much. And whenever I watch him or pet him, he starts running on the wheel then looks at me to see if I'm watching. Idk if that's a good thing or a bad thing.. Also I'm wondering if I can get them a hamster ball for now to explore the house and feel more comfortable until they are bonded . Thanks and I hope I can find some type of mentor to teach me as much as possible, also today I'm going over to watch my best friend WIN (not lose) a soccer game, and it's not loud, it's peaceful, can I bring them? Even though it's only basically day 2.. Thanks, and remember, if someone would like to help me and be my mentor with my gliders it'd help a lot! Thanks the second or third time!

Great! This person hasn't been back. Maybe just maybe they were genuine. They seemed proud they'd done some research and were trying to get approval from the glider community and got stomped on. Thats one thing I don't like that goes on here. As most of you know, I was the target of a mean spirited troll not too long ago but, everyone coming on here like this is a troll.

If they're sleeping at night make sure you have the least amount of light possible in the room they're in at night, or they'll think it's day if you have an overhead light or bright lamp or anything. Just use a night light or I think I've read some people on here use some colored light that doesn't bother them, not sure what it was though. They could also just be adjusting to the move.
Heres a decent YouTube video of some normal sounds they make. Little barks and chirps and crabbing and such
www.youtube.com/watch?v=QulAkv3jWP0&feature=youtube_gdata_player
(sorry its not clickable, I'm on my phone)
As for putting them on you, if they're friendly and sociable and they'll let you scoop them up you can try that, but I know mine wouldn't stay on me for more than a minute, were not bonded yet. I just wear the pouch around my neck or keep it on my chest if I'm laying down. I've tried bra bonding before and my lil guy can't decide if he loves it or hates it. Sometimes he'll snuggle u and sometimes he'll crab.
What diet do you have yours on? Most diets you can give a variety of fruits and veggies, including papaya, but BML for example you can only feed certain fruits/veggies.
As for washing the pouches, I personally havent wanted to try detergent in case it could cause a reaction, I just wash them on the sanitize setting (or super hot) no soap and then dry on low heat. His pouch is never stained or smelly or gross, so I don't think the detergent is necessary.

What can I put on the bottom of the cage to soak up water, food and stuff? Is there anything specific for them? I lured Shai onto my hand with a piece of mango. And he jumped back to his cage. Then he started tasting my finger when I didn't give him the peach lol. Yup, one finished and they're fighting over a mango piece.

If you are not the same as another member they are talking about, I personally apologize for everyone. We want you to be able to get the proper info but it seems this other questionable member has us on edge and the timing is coincidental.

Ok, I was just completely lost on here and didn't know where to post what, should I re-post this there? Is that ok?

I feel dumb. Sorry if you didn't get the responses right off the bat you were looking for. We'd love to see pictures of your babies.

Thank you! And I'll change my profile pic to Atre and Shai (Atre short for Atrevido because as soon as he went in his cage he started jumping around climbing, dancing, running, like there's no tomorrow. And my friend called him Atrevido. Shai is another way to spell Shy because he was extremely shy on his first day, only way to tell em apart, since I think their twins, is see who goes to the wheel when I put them straight in the cage).

Go up top for a bit and check it out and get an idea of how the forum works....maybe do an intro post up top so people can get to know you a bit.

....and personally I'd get rid of the Wodent....actually, I'd re-purpose it. I tossed mine and wish I hadn't....some people took theres' off the stand, laid it down and filled them up with fleece scraps for a make shift ball pit! WISH I HAD THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE I TOSSED MINE!

Ok, again I was really lost and was trying to get some directions on here. And when stealth wheel arrives, I'm gonna do that. Only thing I can't understand is that when we came home at 8 they went into their cage and they went under my shirt I put for them, and ate 2 peach halves, and they've been sound asleep all NIGHT. Nocturnal sleeping at night, makes plenty of sense. And can anyone find me a link for what the specific sounds they make mean? I heard like 3 different ones so far. Also how can I pick them up to do what you said and try to put them on me, luckily their gonna be in my room, and my room is not big enough for escaping space, since I'll cover small holes during the first time.
WAIT, I HEAR NOISES MOVING, but they're not coming out of the shirt. So far they like apple, grapes, and peach. Can they have papaya? And is detergent okay to use on the bonding pouches? Thanks again!

Guys check my IP, I swear I'm not a troll, sorry if this forum has a lot of rude people that decide to do such things. I'm just new here and would like to get introduced, and have ask questions I have. And I did see Atre's body spinning while his head was in the wheel and his brother was running and I'm just saying it looks unsafe, but since I see they've used it with their old owner for the past year or months, I'm guessing I should keep it and it's fine? Is there just any way I can "prove I'm not a rude person who's trolling on SUGAR GLIDER FORUMS.." I mean seriously, who has such little life, to troll on a sugar glider forum. I mean I'm really feeling un-welcomed here because everyone automatically accusing me.. :/
Elementronix Posted - Sep 15 2012 : 06:31:19 PM
I got Shai and Atre in their bonding pouch and brought them to a soccer place cause I needed to pick up someone, we were there for about a half hour, then I went to eat somewhere,of course in that time I made sure to pet them, and feed them some apple I had with me packed, and let them drink water from the water thing (an extra one, I decided to bring it around, they got a new one), etc. But that was only during the 2 times they awoke, asleep most of the time. And why are people so harsh? 1st - I just got my gliders, do you wanna see pictures of them, cage, anything if you think I'm a "troll" or whatever. 2nd - Mr."People think they're so smart don't they", if I thought I knew sooo much would I come here to these forums and ask? Only person that actually helped me here is Zoeys mom, she answered all my questions, she helped me, and gave me additional information. THANK YOU. And why be so mean to me everyone else... And what does "As genuine as a $3 bill" mean..? Never heard it in my life.. And what do you mean by posting it on the bottom?

I don't understand? Why would people do this?
Omis n Kais g-ma Posted - Sep 15 2012 : 03:28:20 PM
I ain't touching this one.
JazzNZoeysmom Posted - Sep 15 2012 : 12:44:50 PM
OK, I'm understanding what you're talking about now.....

As I said I haven't been on much & I have been avoiding this particular persons posts as they came off as a newby approaching the forum as if they were going to teach everyone here a few things. That was just my take on the first few posts....and since I thought I may have been just reading this person wrong I chose to avoid them instead of make unneccessary comments.
JazzNZoeysmom Posted - Sep 15 2012 : 12:39:43 PM
I haven't been on much this past week so I may have missed some things but normally a troll asks some really obvious controversial things to stir the forum and I wasn't picking up on that here....

hmmmmm?????

Oh well, I had the best intentions when answering the questions...that's all I can do.
kyro298 Posted - Sep 15 2012 : 12:29:12 PM
Sounds like they think it's another member with a new screen name. I've asked for an ip check.

Alright, enlighten me....what am I missing????

I guess Jazz hasn't figured it out yet.

lol @ okus...yes people think they are so smart dont they??

Welcome to the forum....in the future you may want to post this stuff up top. Many people don't really scroll down far enough to see these posts as this area is for NON glider related topics.

I personally wouldn't take them out in public yet. You should be wearing them during the day, preferrably inside (IMO), in a bonding pouch so they get used to you. And yes, I do this from day one....I have with all of mine.

Hamster balls are a no-no.... tiny nails can get stuck in the grooves and they'll rip a toe off trying to escape. (or at the least could break one)

IMO when you are questioning anything you want to do with them in these early stages...ask yourself these questions... will this move my bonding forward? and will they feel safe?

Your ultimate goal is to get these little guys to bond with you, and to do this, they MUST feel safe in your presence...this takes time.

For the first couple of months (1-2mo.) my gliders only know their cage and ME. I don't let them have free roam of my bedroom (which is their playroom). Now they do ride on my shoulder as I move about the house so it's not like they are unfamiliar with their surroundings and the sounds/smells of my home, but my ultimate goal is when the time comes that they are allowed to roam free in my bedroom, that I don't have to chase them down at the end of play time. That is not good and can be traumatizing. By the time they have spent several weeks on me...I have no issues with them. I've even had a few escapes...my gliders cages are set up in my unused dining room....that's the dining room, kitchen, hall, then living room...they have always sought me out. Sitting watching TV & I've seen a fuzzy ball of fur run across the floor. I can stand up and say, Come here Zoey....and out she comes from under a coffee table or chair she darted under. (I can tell it's my Zoe cuz she curls her tail) Even my grumpiest and most unsociable glider has gotten out. While he doesn't seek me out, I can stand in the room and wait and he'll eventually come over to me and climb up my leg.

It's all a matter of degrees....with him, of course he would love to "escape,"...it's his world, he just allows me to exist in it.... BUT while he is "escaped," he is in unfamilar surroundings...yes, he's in the dining room but I don't let them run around the room...he's on the floor where everything looks different so I'm sure he's torn between freedom and being slightly uncomfortable with the "unknown." So when I walk into the room and just sit in the middle of the floor, I know it's a mere matter of time before he comes running up to me because other than his cage, I am the most familiar thing in his little life.

Anyway, that's how I handle the first few months of them being in my home...working on the final goal of being their safe place so I don't have to stress too much should they get out, or if I were to take them out in public not be so worried that they would try to get away.

You seem as genuine as a $3 bill.
