My old glider,Reptar(RIP)was a little escape artist. He used to lift open the small doors (they slid up) in the cage and squeeze right out. After solving that problem, there was no possible way he could get out, the large doors were too heavy. Until one day, I woke up, and see what I thought was a rat run by the foot of my bed. It was reptar of course. Next to his cage, but a few feet higher up, was a cage with my budgies in it. He must have reached out and grabbed onto the blanket covering their cage, because I woke up and it was pulled about half way down between the top panel, and side panel of his cage. He must have pulled it unti it was so tight it popped of the hinges holding the two cage panels together. Well, long story short, Reptar learned to break open hist cage, and he went and ran into my hamper, into a long sleeve t-shirt (mind you this was about a week after I got him, he was still scared, and was not tame what so ever)so I grabbed it by the cuff of the sleeve, he ran up the sleeve, out the end, bit my finger, glided to the floor and took off again. After that I moved his cage to a space where nothing was in arm's reach, well for him atleast.

It is never easy losing a fur baby.

Sara Sue, I am buying a pair of twins from a local petstore (they are USDA liscenced to sell and breed gliders) and might add another joey from somebody on craigslist who said they have one ip still and they want it to go to a great home. I try not to beat myself up, I cried for weeks though

I'm sorry he died. Don't beat yourself up over it. It may not have been the diet either, gliders are good at hiding their illnesses. You did not know any better, and why would someone NOT trust the people selling them their pet. When you know better you do better, I'm sure you will give your next gliders (I say 'gliders' bc they would really like to have a friend and not be solitary) a great home.

Well, when I got him, I was misinformed about their care (I was misled by the Pocket Pets people at the mall) So I think I killed him by not giving him the propper diet i should have done my research but it was an impulse buy. They came my birthday weekend, and my uncle bought me one for my present. So I am really not sure how he died. Only after did I start soing all the research I should have and found out their diet was way more complex then the pellets and apple a day he was eating.
