Hi, everyone! I just welcomed a new sugar glider into my home and I am having a blast learning all about sugar gliders and how to take care of them (Seriously, this little dude eats better than I do). As for the advice, most of you probably know this already, but I didn't and it amused me greatly. One night, I offered my little guy (His name is Richter) a treat, but instead of eating the treat, he grabbed the tip of my index finger, sniffed it a little, and began to nibble! It wasn't a bite, just a nibble. Then it hit me... Don't wash your hands with soap that smells like green apples just before handling your baby. He may try to find out if you are delicious. Cheers! |

try breaking the mealworms open and squeezing a bit of guts out so that he can smell it, maybe he would be more interested |

I did the same thing with Pomegranate soap for a few weeks |

I think I might try what someone else suggested with the mealies and cut one in half for him so he gets the inside bits first. And yes, i am a knitter!

Mine did that with mealworms until they were about 12 weeks old. They don't seem to figure it out right away, but once they do, look out! Edit: and WELCOME! Are you a knitter? Your name suggests that to me |

After much online research, I went with the HPW. He loves it and cleans his bowl every night. He gets: * 1.5 tsp HPW mixture * small bowl fruits and veggies (I'm working on finding stuff he likes with a good calcium/phosphorus ratio, but I'll be talking to my vet about that soon) * small bowl pellets The pellets get left in the cage during the day for snacks. I've tried giving him meal worms for treats, but he tends to take them from my hand, drop them, and then go on doing whatever he was doing. He likes apple sauce much better (the natural stuff, that only has apples and water in it). I've given him a dab of yogurt for protein, but I think I might try crickets to see if he likes those better. As I've said, I'll be talking to my vet about it soon, but any comments are suggestions are welcome. I want a happy, healthy little boy! |
