ok so i have a 2yr old un-neutered male suggie and i am looking to get him a friend. i have read about how to introduce the 2 suggies and all that but i was wondering if it is ok to keep 2 un-neutered males 2gether in the same cage. and if not will they be happy living next 2 each other in separate cages and having "bonding time"???

please any advice would be great and soon. i have a guy waiting on my email for the results of this post!!!!

thanks!!

First things first: get your little guy neutered, then start saving for a friend. Read up on quarantine and introductions. Be aware that for the quarantine period, since they're in separate rooms, you'll have to have two of everything: cage, cage sets, water bottles, toys ... it can get pretty expensive. So get the neuter out of the way; it's really important if you're going to get him a companion of either gender. Then start looking for a rescue or rehome, preferably one who's already neutered; even better, one who comes with cage and toys etc. Good luck!

Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure. You could try getting a neutered male but if you get a female and they mate, you then will wind up having to get one of them neutered because dads will mate with daughters and sons will mate with moms and then you'll have a whole new batch of issues. Most vets will not even attempt to spay a female for the reasons listed above. I know mine won't even consider it. It's just too risky.

thats the thing tho... i cant afford to neuter my male AND get him a friend. So thats y I was wondering if there was anyway that he could stay intact and have a friend that he wont beat up.

I would think spaying would be way more expensive (if possilbe anyway) than neutering a male. And far more risky as its more involved.....

Females aren't spayed, they're too tiny for surgery and the reproductive system is very complex. Why not get your male neutered? Then you can find him a companion of either gender. Two NON-neutered males probably won't get along unless they've been raised together.

From my experience with our vet... in a situation where there is a female and an in tact male, she rather neuter the male not spay the female.

ok... what about a spayed female or will he just bother the crap out of her?? will he be ok with a neutered male??

oops sorry i read that wrong.. if you plan on getting him a friend you need a female... but then you could always have joeys.. or a nuetered male.. he'll need to be nutered too i suggest getting him nuetered then he could have a nuetered male friend or a femal

but not 2 UN-neutered gliders

yes it is fine for two nuetered males to live togethor in the same cage if they get along
