I called the vet today and made my first of 3 appointments. I have 4 old dogs 15,14,13,12. Well 3 of them have decided to get very old all of the sudden at the same time. It broke my heart to call the vet I cried I tried hard not to but these have been my babies since before I even had kids. Well the 13yr old has been coughing and started retaining fluid so I belive it is time. The 15yr old sleeps day and night goes potty and that's it. The 14yr old just lays she does not play anymore and can't get on her favorite couch anymore and has lost weight the past week. I hate this I can't bear three at once. It's bad enough I feel so bad for taking one. I feel like I am killing him even though I am ending his suffering. And then if all three go then my little man that is left might go too. I can't stand this part I knew it would come one day but I had prayed they would just go in their sleep and I wouldn't have to do it . So think of me tommorow I will be a mess and so will my boys. |

This is my Barbie Doll who passed away almost 2 years ago. Before her, I lost Boomer (17 1/2) and Breezy (13) I miss them all and at times think of them and cry - but in my heart, I know they are in a better place. It's such a hard decision, but I think they let us know when it's their time. Think of him as a young puppy - all full of himself - running free in the green grass - happy. And know he thanks you for his wonderful life and loves you always...

I just saw this. I am so so sorry for your loss. It is heartbreaking to have to do, but so unselfish and loving. We lost our Aussie a year and a half ago - he died in the car on the way to the emergency vets office. He had heart and lung cancer. The vets office took his paw print and mailed it to us with a sympathy card. I cried when I opened it. It is now framed on my husbands desk. Big huge hugs to you all. |

Thank you so much everyone for all the thoughts and hugs. WE took our boy today and we brought him home and laid him to rest. He was loved on the way there and loved during all of it. Thank you so much for being here. |

Thank you so much!! Yes my BFF ABBY I was out and yesterday was a bad day I didn't want to cry in your ear(LOL). I am at peace with my decision now and I think since I don't have the concrete stuff I am going to take some pictures of him with my non furry babies I think that would be the best memory for us. Thank you all so much! |

I am so sorry to hear this for you, I have been in the same situation a few years ago with my pekingnese Jesse. It's very heartbreaking to lose a pet AND you have to make that kind of decision on top of it.Sending LOTS of thoughts and prayers your way. |

I agree with Kazko. The night we sadly had to put Daisy to sleep (I miss you so much Daisy) the vet actually took a paw print on plaster for us than we had to bring it home and bake it. It is one of my most prized possesions I am so thank ful I have it. I might even get it tattooed one day. |
kazko Posted - Nov 12 2009 : 09:23:26 PM
Nothing you do now will change the fact that you will miss them. One thing I might suggest is to get their paws into concrete before you take them to the vet. I'm glad I got Penny's. It actually took my family doing the effort because I just had a hard time with it all. All in all, none of us need be alone when times like this come, so be sure to share your feeling with your family at least. Our animals are our love, and when our love is taken from us we need the love of others to help in place.

Thank you guys so much! Rita I wonder if Dramamine would do the same thing for him. I will call the vet tommorow morning and see if we can use it or get something so he has less stress. |

Tracy, My heart totally goes out to you and your family. What a selfless act. Even I reading this thread and I am not even a "dog person". Your son is one smart little cookie! Hugs & Prayers, Karen |

That was so insightful of you son - and so true. Im so glad you are going with Toby. Its so important that someone he knows, loves and trusts be with him so he is not afraid. I made a post on - a little suggestion that might make things easier for him. <<hugs>> |
tootles Posted - Nov 12 2009 : 07:31:26 PM
Thank you so much you guys!! I have cried every time I see your kind words. Toby is such a blessing to us and he is going to be deeply missed. I have his apt at 4:00 tommorow I am taking him myself I feel I owe him that I adopted him and he trusts me and has been my bestfriend. My boys wanted me to wait so they could go and say goodbye. I guess after We say our goodbye's to Toby we will probably be back there saying some more to the others. I know it's the right thing to do but it does not make it any easier. My son said the most amazing thing to me before he went to bed he said mom Toby is going to wake up tommorow and not realize that he won't wake up again another morning he said how is it that he will and does not even know that. I explained it to him but it is amazing how they don't have to suffer with thoughts the way we do it's really a blessing for them. Thank you all for all the hugs and prayers. |

I really feel for you and my deepest sympathies. You are making a decision that hurts so much to make and I hated making it for my pets, but it's whats best. I'm sorry for your loss.... |

Tracy - Ive been right where you are, too. It's hurts so bad. What you need to remember is - We have to love them enough to know when to let them go. It's the kindest, most unselfish thing we can do for them. I have several old dogs, too. One is 16 - so I know her days are numbered. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. <<hugs>> |

Tracy, you'll be in my prayers. Bless you for doing this difficult thing, for the love of your darling doggies. We're all here for you.

Tracy, that was a very unselfish decision that you made. I am going through a tough time myself with our old cocker spaniel, Scooter. He's sleeping all the time, except when he goes potty or eats. He now has no control of his bladder due to diabetes insipidus, so he's in male doggie diapers. I need to take a page out of your book...I know how hard this is for you. (((((HUGS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY))))) |

Oh Tracy, I'm so sorry. I know exactly how you're feeling :( I had my kids take pictures with our lab in her last few days and then made my son a little photo book that he LOVES. Huge hugs to you and the whole family.... |

I'm so sorry Tracy. I know this is one of the hardest decisions we ever have to make. I've had to do it a few times. You and your doggies will be in my prayers. I pray for you the strength you need as you take on the very hard task ahead of you. God Bless! |
