Our beautiful Nubian milk goat, Maria, just gave birth to two kids. Judging from the La Mancha look of the female kid, Marge, it looks like Guinness was the father. Guinness was just whethered about two weeks ago so that should be his last set of kids...

Marge has the tell-tale small ears and wattles of the La Mancha. She is larger than her little brother Mitchell, who looks just like his mom, with big floppy ears.

We have been bottle feeding Mitchell because he has not been nursing well on his own. This was also true of his half-brother Sydney, born of Guinness and Sheba. We bottle fed him for four days until he got the hang of it with mom. Looks like Mitchell is on track for the same.

We have mom and her two kids cordened-off in the "nursery" which is one of the stalls in the barn that has a good gate on it. We will probably keep them in there for a few weeks until they are strong enough to withstand being pushed around by the older kids and adults.

The other goats and sheep and even the llama have been visiting the nursery regularly to check out the babies...

Here are a few pix of the two kids together

OK it's been a week. Both Marge and Mitchell are spry and good-looking. Eyes are bright, nursing well and playing in-between naps. This morning after I mucked out the nursery stall and refreshed their food and water, they laid down across my lap for about five minutes and snoozed. Mom (Maria) came over and called to them and I put them down. Last night Mitchell managed to climb up on top of a kiddie plastic picnic table I put in there - so their climbing instincts are kicking in too. In about a week, I will be letting them out to mingle with the others...

Love the kids, I would adopt a goat if I knew the ride back home with it wasn't going to be a challenge.
