You're such a softy Kazko. If I catch any squirrels in my backyard licking their chops at my pecan tree, I'll box 'em up and send them right over. o, I'm assuming it had to be put down. Hope the person that hit it, has a good deal of damage to their vehicle. If I run over anything, I have to pull it out of the road.

Bah, I nee some more baby squirrels.

I'm glad you saw this and was thoughtful enough to help out, otherwise I wouldn't want to imagine how horrible the rest of this poor creature's life would have been. Were they able to save the deer or did it have to be put down?

OMG that is so horrible. That poor deer :(

Kazko, you are right! This poor guy was hit by a car and is just waiting to die . The magpies are NOT picking off ticks or bugs, but eating this poor deer alive The Mule deer was just lying there for 2-3 days until someone noticed the Crows and Magpies doing their thing. The poor thing had several large lacerations,a broken leg and a small wound on its back that the birds were picking at. I had to call the DOW and have them come dispatch the poor deer, not really how I wanted to spend part of my Easter .

You got me Scott. Deer don't let birds pick fleas off them and what else? I don't see any antlers but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

Are Oregon Mule Deer in Colorado?

The antler on the left side of the deer looks like it was digitally placed on the picture. Or that's just camera blur. The other antler is covered by a bush so you can't see it. But judging by the size of the suspicious antler I would think is big enough to peak over the branch.

I don't see anything wrong with this picture! Looks like an eastern oregon mule deer laying under a tree with birds cleaning ticks off it. The deer is on the backside of a slope between water and the top of a hill, predatos do not come from the direction where the water is so its facing the hilltop and if you zoom in its actually looking back at whoever took the pic. I have seen this scenario many times and its normal! No babys from this deer that I can see , doubt it could ,it has a grey muzzle wich means its old,and it could be a male since males usually dont have antlers this time of year as far as I know.

Hard to see on my phone but I also thought maybe she gave birth. Looks like a baby or some kind of mass next to her. Why are the Magpies picking at her though? :( I've also never seen deer over here sit facing into a tree.

I saw the herd of 25-30 roaming around together today. Never ceases to amaze me. I'm ready to see some fawns!

Looks like a deer in a place he shouldnt be. I suspect he got hit by a car and is there essentially dying. Might have also just given birth. Is that an after birth I see?
