I am so ready to just leave the glider community. Not because you aren't all amazing, but because newbies don't freaking listen!

Right now I'm trying to help this woman who doesn't even know glider 101 and is breeding her gliders...

Seriously, every time I talk to her she freaks out because she's learning something new. And then she complains about how stressed she is.

WHY WOULD YOU BREED AN EXOTIC IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE BASICS OF THE ANIMAL?!

I'm sorry, I'm just so angry right now. I love my girls, and they are my world, but I don't know if I have the patience to help newbies who are jumping in head first without ANY research. I get that some people get tricked by PP or are given a glider. Its the people who search them out, buy them for the reason of making a quick buck breeding, but don't have a clue.

To the "old timers" here, you are all amazing. Your patience is incredible and you do so much more than you know.

I'm shaking I'm so mad... I'm going to go move my laundry to cool down...

just to let you know I am a newbie I've been here 11 days I was sucked in I wanted 1 as a pet was told they do better as pairs decided on 2 found someone got to girls that where filthy decided to get her 2 boys also I knew she didn't keep them very well but she had me convinced that breeding them was cool but being on here they are separated much healthier and happy it is an amazing sight and people that want to learn do listen I'm proof of that I figure a few years down the road when I know more I may breed to build a colony but then neutering will happen until then they stay separated and happy

unfortunately people just see $$$ signs. They hear "breeding an exotic" and thinks its as simple as that; then get a big cash out when the breeding period is over, they don't even care to really learn how to take care of the pet, just enough to keep them alive then sell.

I guess not and that's a pretty sad fact that she didn't read up on it before messing with it

On one of the FB groups the other day a newbie posted a pic of a little pink blob she "found" in her females pouch. She pulled it off with tweezers, posted a pic and wanted to know what it was!

I can't tell you how bad I and many others felt about that. I was damn near in tears. Went in and loved on my darlings and just didn't get back on the computer for awhile....

Im a newbie and this just ..just wow this made me cry..oh crap im so sad this is horrible! To me isn't this just kind of a common sense kind of thing? I mean just ..omg..

sorry this might be a lil late but i was going through the forum and this broke my heart.

Lyndia, that is so horrible i can't even imagine!!! having been sooo lucky as to witness my Roxy calmly giving birth to her little bean while sitting on my lap and watching her lick the path for her to follow to the pouch, i just keep seeing that tiny little red determined blob crawling to the pouch. why why why would anyone be peering into the mom's pouch anyway?
btw, link to the birth:

httpwww.youtube.comwatchv=DtuzaldtGfs&feature=youtu....

i think that's it. i can't access youtube at work to see if it works. if not, look up "Roxy giving birth on my lap"

she is named Snickers and her OOP date was March 9.

She didn't know what it was she said. She feels awful now that she knows.

Lisa, Guess the woman who pulled off the poor joey with tweezers title would be The Evil Abortionist! Someone should report this woman, if they know who/wjhere she is! Makes me want to give her a hysterectomy with no anesthesia! I mean, really she would have to be dumber than a rock to do this! Can't even stand to think about it! And the poor mommy- I know that broke her heart!

I'm slightly better now... 8 loads of laundry later. I feel better after venting it out a little bit.

I understand people who get into it with wrong info and are slowly learning, but this particular woman got into it with NO info! And she wont be the last to think that breeding gliders is a quick money maker.

Oh and she claimed that if her female glider (who is roughly 6 months old) hurts the joeys she will kill the female. That was a new one as of this morning. I just... want to rescue these poor gliders from this horrible human!

right on Sleighr!
I get tired too. I dont post much. And if they dont listen thats fine at least I keep trying when I can. My glider numbers are pretty high right now so not much time.
GliderLove94 Posted - Apr 10 2013 : 11:38:17 PM
It does take a bit to get rid of that newbie mind set. With the economy and all, they are thinking breeding=easy money, pellets=cheap & simple. It's great when they listen and get a neuter, but refusal is just plain frustrating.
sleighr Posted - Apr 10 2013 : 11:05:10 PM
You know, that was the bill of goods we were sold when we got into this. The "breeder" we got our first pair from said all they need is cat food and a little of this mixture here (a pretty good diet actually) they breed like rabbits live in finch cages and you can get 300$ apiece for the babies! My daughter swallowed this gals story hook line and sinker. She even sold me on paying for the first pair of gliders as a source of college money would you believe! Six years later it almost sounds funny.
My only point is, stupidity is instantly absorbed it seems, wisdom does not soak in near so quick.
God is Great, Beer is Good...People are crazy!
kazko Posted - Apr 10 2013 : 09:46:21 PM
Write an article, put it into the Gliderpedia, and then reference it.

It is frustrating saying the same thing over and over to people who may not even care to listen. So just give them applicable links. If they cant read for themselves, they are helpless.

You cant let that get ya down.
