Me and my ex used to keep our gliders near our bed. I know they all loved to watch us while we were sleeping, and we had a really easy time bonding with them (well except for our girl, but she was just a crab apple) I don't know I think they had an easier time bonding with us since we were able to be with them ALL the time. I really miss my gliders <:[

My glider is in my bedroom onto of my dresser I'd like to get him a standing cage but the price is a little to much and I haven't found one I like yet but even if I had a standing cage he'd still be in there this way if he's in need I can hear him although he a little stinky sometimes I like it better knowing if something is wrong I can hear him at all times. I wouldn't have it any other way!!!!!

I could never keep them in my room. Right now they are in the far side of the living room next to my room and they still wake me up. I don't think I'd ever get any sleep.

mine are in my bedroom i love watching mine play
Yonx Posted - Jul 22 2010 : 10:47:29 AM
Once/ if I get one, I will be keeping them in my bedroom, but it is the entire attic. I am also a kid, and I am saving up money until I can afford to get most of the supplies, then I will ask my parents If I can have them. I have been reading up on them a ton, but I know pouting isn't the way to go to get them.
(I am also a night person any ways, so staying up to play with them isn't a big problem for me)

I honestly think that once you get sugar gliders, they are not going to be what you expected. (They certainly weren't for me, at least.)

Suggie Mom,
considering they were not what you expected, have you ever regretted owning yours?

Thanks

Amen! I agree 110% with you suggie_mom! Unfortunately, they (sugar gliders forever) won't listen to anybody's reasoning, but let's hope they took that to heart whether they admit it or not. It's very important that newbies see past the cute adorable eyes and fun personalities and see how much work it takes to raise a glider.

Sugar gliders forever, I agree with your mom. At the time being, they likely are too much for you/your household to handle. Now, that's not saying that you'll never be ready for a glider, you just need to take your time and not act on impulse.

Now, to answer the poll; I have my gliders in my bedroom, that waay if something goes wrong and they start barking in panic I can react immediately. I prefer them there, regardless of the noise.

Still being a kid myself, I know for sure that thats not the way to go about getting them!
If you want a pet, the number one thing to remember is that responsibility is key! Your parents need to know that you are ready for a pet and can care, feed, clean, and provide for it. Your parents need to know that you'll be caring for it, not them.

By your descriptions, your moms right. They do bite, and they do leave marks on the walls. (Not by climbing up them, however.) Their food tends to stick to the walls, and they go to the restroom where ever they want.

Sugar gliders aren't a pet like a hampster or rabbit. You can't skip careing for them a couple of days while your busy with friends, or going to camp.
They won't be healthy on a diet of just apples and pellets. In fact, food can get quite exspensive. Can you help pay for it? (doing chores, yardwork, babysitting, ect.)

Sugar gliders also sleep ALL day long, and you can't take them out to play with them or they will get stressed. You can't teach them tricks, either.

I honestly think that once you get sugar gliders, they are not going to be what you expected. (They certainly weren't for me, at least.)

mine are not in my bedroom because my toddler sleeps in there right now because his room has some problems and he sleeps very lightly and i dont want him to lose sleep because of them after all he just started sleeping when he got his ear surgery done 2 months ago so they are in my living room and they like me to leave the tv on for them...they actually dont eat when i turn it off

Mine our in my room, once I get to sleep I can sleep almost through anything.
suggielover74 Posted - Oct 09 2009 : 03:43:02 AM
Some of ours are in our bedroom and some are in their own room. They do not bother me, but I don't sleep much. I enjoy watching them in low light and my husband sleeps right through all the noise (most of the time) LOL.
our2girlz Posted - Oct 06 2009 : 05:13:41 PM
I tried to have them in my bedroom. I couldn't sleep with the noise of the wodent wheel. It was either move the suggies or take the wheel away. I couldn't bear taking the wheel away they love that thing.
wolfsrose21 Posted - Oct 06 2009 : 04:56:23 PM
I have no choice but to have them in my room because my mom thinks they will be too cold in the green room and too hot in the living room, lol
B.Eckelberry24 Posted - Mar 16 2009 : 07:54:11 AM
my husband and i had our one in the bedroom at first (for like a week) then they got too messy, tossing out their bedding and food, and poop haha.and the running wheel was annoying while trying to sleep! so we got sick of vacuuming daily, and moved them into our living room that had wooden floors! plus we spend more time in the living room and they get more attention from us.

I have two cages in my bedroom until Sunshine and BabyGirl get into the big cage. I wouldn't have it any other way! I feel better knowing I can look at any moment and see them. I also love their little noises (when I'm still awake, or settling in for the night)... But, I'm not a light sleeper and hearing impaired to boot :o) My son sleeps in my bed though, and he says BabyGirl wakes him up barking. Since he's almost 7 yrs old, I see it as a way to get him back into his own bed in HIS room!!! haha

I have them in the spare bedroom but they each get a turn in my bedroom thourgh the nightk. I have 3 sets (4 right now keeping my exs) sometimes they torture me all night and sometimes they let me sleep. I havent had a whole night sleep since jan 2007. lol who needs sleep anyway?
snusie Posted - Mar 11 2009 : 06:57:20 PM
When the new boys were quarantined, they were in my bedroom. Now the gliders are all in the library together in one home ... and I miss them! I love the noise they make ... little monkeys!

When we have overnight company, whoever it is usually sleeps on the futon in the library. I've had various reactions, but (except for one niece) my family members like them too, and don't mind at all sharing a room with the boys. But, no, they're not for light sleepers, unless you enjoy them anyway.
valkyriemome Posted - Feb 28 2009 : 08:02:20 PM
I just moved mine OUT of the bedroom. They were in there for over a year. I love them. I miss the 4 am wake up call. But - I am sleeping better!
Rita Posted - Feb 28 2009 : 06:14:32 PM
I also keep mine in the bedroom and wouldnt have it any other way.

Alan and I both have our own rooms due to conflicting work schedules but I can gauartee you they would NOT be in the room if we shared. I like the TV on - Alan doesnt want a TV in his room. Alan likes it totally dark, I prefer some sort of small light. And Alan does not like any noise - the gliders do not bother me.

So, it all works out!

I wouldn't have it any other way, I tried moving them to another room but after a month I took them back to my bedroom. Too much stress in my life and they are my stress relief but sometimes when they have 6 wheels running at 3am I want to throw the wheels out instead I just get up and talk to them
oturraho Posted - Feb 26 2009 : 01:34:00 PM
I have a spare bedroom where I keep my gliders.. sometimes we can hear barking through the walls and squeeky wheels but other than that it works great.. I could NEVER keep them in my room.

I'm looking to get two gliders in the future, but I'm sure I can handle the noise.
Gizmo-n-Roos Mommy Posted - Sep 28 2008 : 07:57:48 PM
I enjoy having my babies in my bedroom.

My hubby unfortunately (for him!) does not share that sentiment. If he had his way, they would be moved somewhere else.

I would say it's probably not a good idea for light sleepers though. They can get kinda crazy and noisy sometimes.
TalenaMelissa Posted - Sep 28 2008 : 03:13:30 PM
I have no problem with them being in my room. The boyfriend is a light sleeper though lol
