Hello,

I am new to the forum but not new to the care of sugar gliders. I am looking for someone to read this post and possibly help me out..

I am a leasing agent for the Melbourne, Palm Bay & Brevard Florida Area… One of my clients had two sugar glider both females .. I noticed that they were in bad health and one of them looked very sick and had a yellow discoloration, from past experience I knew that they were both sick and it was something that had to be taken care of immediately.. I talked with my client and tried to talk to him about seeking help from a vet for this 2 sugar gliders,
quote:
he told me that he did not have the money to take them to the vet and if they died they died
I couldn’t believe this man!!!

I then asked him If i could take them from him and I would be more than happy to take them both from him and get them the medical care that they needed.

To make a long story short he was not willing to do this unless if I paid him he wanted $400 for both and $150 for the cage after everything was all said and done I paid $550 for two sugar gliders that I was not even sure if they were going to live or die. I am a very big animal lover specially for sugar gliders since I had 4 when I was growing up.

I brought both of this sugar gliders home and took them to the vet the very next day. The vet bill was ridiculous!!! The vet was not able to save one of the girls and she died about 1 week after I brought her home and the one girl that’s left did survive and she is happy and looks allot better and was even given a clean bill of health by her vet.

The Problem is that now I can’t spend a large amount in getting another FEMAELE sugar glider for “princess” to hang out with I had to spend so much money so unexpectedly. I spent so much money up front to buy them from my client plus the vet bills and not to mention the brand new cage that I got..so I am looking for someone that knows or has a female sugar glider that is local or close to me that is looking to rehome their sugar glider for little or no cost.

I noticed that Princess changed when her little friend past away and I know they do better with another sugar glider and I just want her to be happy since her first year of her life has been so ruff on her. I want her and her new friend to live a happy life with me.

I have tried craigslist and every other place like it without any luck.. I did check the pet shops and they want $250 or more for a sugar glider, but I don’t want to buy from the pet shop, I want to rescue or adopt a sugar glider and give them the life that they deserve. “Princess” is very tame and she lets you pick her up and play with her so I would need one that is just as nice as her.Princess is about 1 ½ year old.

Thank you so much guys, you can email me at jatorres85@live.com or text me 321-223-3560

Pet finder sometimes as sugar gliders looking for a home and most shelters will waive adoption fees if it a good home

You could try hoobly, oodle or craigslist. They sometimes have cheap sugar gliders.

Savage.vanity, I am in port saint lucie and life is too busy right now to drive to you but I have a male female pair of rescues that I have been looking for a home for. The male is nuetered and they may be able to become a trio if you can't find a single glider. Feel free to pm me for my number and we can talk. But I have a feeling that the person who was sent your way by another member is the same one I would suggest talking to so I will let her know of your situation also. She usually has many more rescues then I do but I believe is further away then myself.

I couldn't find the thread but I did contact a member that I know lives in Florida that had or does rescue. I hope she gets with you. I also looked at craigslist and there are plenty of gliders in Florida. You may have to drive a little. A male be all you can get. Just have him neutered during his 30 day quarantine. Some aren't too bad priced either.

I know someone posted recently that he couldn't keep his gliders because he was going to school and working. He got it/them from someone in the military who also gave them up because they couldn't care for them. Wish I could remember who this member was. I'll go digging through threads.
