What do you all make of the fake flowers in the bowl? Safe/unsafe? It looks amazing but...it's obviously not fleece. Tent time only so play is supervised or not at all?

Ah! Brilliant! I will have to do that. I also commented on the Pin's poster and she said she got hers at the Dollar Store and made sure there was no glue or hazardous parts to them. But leys sound much easier to deal with! Thanks!!!

I buy lays and cut them up. Like...Hawaiian lays.

Okay, where do you guys shop for your silk flowers? I ask this because yesterday and today, I went shopping and I went to both Hobby Lobby and Michael's and I could not find anything flowers that did not have the weird plastic pieces (and parts made of other, unknown materials) in the middle. Don't know if that's safe or not.

Not on SALE exactly but I've found them on Amazon using the terms "cupcake to go" in the search bar but they are pretty expensive, ranging from $5 (cheap end) to $10 (expensive end).

Silk flowers are okay to use as long as when you rub them between your fingers they do not frey and fall apart. What you will find is if you spend a little more money on your silk flowers they will be a better quality. For example many of the silk flowers at The Dollar Tree frey when you rub them between your fingers :)

I am laughing pretty hard right now because I have that thing! It's a giant cupcake! I did not use rexlace like that...doesn't look secure enough for my liking. I do use some silk flowers but you have to find ones that won't fray. My gliders LOVE them. I stuff them in wiffle balls and they make a huge mess by morning.

Ok, This thread inspired me to make a pretty forage toy for my girls. Thanks again RC for posting & to JNZ'smom & Candy for the positive feed back.

I have some plastic vines with large silk 'maple' leaves. My gliders love to pull the leaves off. I gather them up now and then from the cage and wash them with dawn dish soap and water. After rinsing well I dry them flat on a towel and then put them loose in the cage. My gliders carry them into their pouch and tunnels and seem to like nesting in them.

Larger leaves/flowers hold up better than small ones. The small ones are harder to pick up when tossed around and small flowers are usually in layered parts that come apart when the glider pull them off the plastic vine.

They still play with them, but I usually toss the small stuff and only wash and reuse the large leaves.

Yes, thank you Lyndia, cuz I got jealous looking at this toy and will be using silk flowers if it's perfectly safe! :) Woo hoo! More options! I love it!

That would be fine for an in cage, all the time toy.

Good to know, now I'll check out my leftover daisy heads to see if they're safe as well. It will be interesting to see their reaction if so.

Thanks JNZ'smom & thanks RC (hope initials are ok to use) for sharing these lovely toys with us.

I don't know, apparently this person lets their gliders play in them. I've heard of some people using silk vines or plants, as long as no was wire in them, if I'm not mistaking. It could be similar using silk flowers, just a thought.

It's hard to imagine anyone knowingly letting their gliders play with unsafe toys, is there a way to contact the maker of this toy and ask how the gliders do with the flowers and if need supervised play?

They do look so pretty! I may have some silk Gerbera Daisy heads left over from my wedding, wondering if they'e be safe to throw a couple or a few in the play box & see how they like them.

Let me know what you find out, k?
