Do you guys cover the whole cage at night or only half like the sides and back?

Mine love to play with things on the top of the cage (milk cap things, feathers, straws etc) They hang and play up there alot. So I never cover the top - only the back and sides. The front and top are always open.

I wasn't really concerned about the mess as we have that handled, thank god. I was more wondering if when you are done playing with them and go to sleep do you leave the front of the cage open or do you cover it? I usually cover my the whole cage at night and i don't really like doing that, seems to caged if that makes sense.

I have a cover over the back and sides and it helps with the food every where and they love to crwal up and down it,so it works out!

Glider kitchens somewhat control some of the mess.

The first time I used a glider kitchen, I took it out the next morning and looked inside, and could only think "Challenge Accepted!" The inside of the glider kitchen looked like the inside of the blender after I make their food! I do not believe it would have been possible for them to get more food on the top, bottom, side, inside, outside....

But - they are little magicians! Somehow they can make that big a mess inside the glider kitchen and STILL have reserve left over to throw at the walls!

Nope.....wrong. The glider kitchen does help cut down on the amount of food on the walls, and on the floor, and in the pan, but they do carry the food outside of the kitchen...just like a human teenager does.

And it's not just food you find on your walls, and all around the cage. You'll find poop all over the place too. I don't know if it's that they throw it, or just that they poop when they are high up in the cage, and it just falls outside the cage. And I have a yellow stain on a little table beside my cage so I'm assuming that was from pee.

Unfortunately, some gliders like to pick up chunks of food and carry them to a favorite spot in the cage to eat it.

I have one that likes to sit in the 'castle' (a toddler's shape sorter) and another that takes pieces into their ferret tunnels at the top of the cage.

Even with a kitchen, they may still toss stuff around the cage and on to the wall and floor.

You can cover the sides of the cage to cut down on the mess.

Their permanent habitat has a wrap around one side, the back, and about 1/4-1/3 (depending on which wrap) of the other side (not against a wall). The travel cage has a cover over top, back, and both sides, this is mainly because it's small and easier to secure that way & we will have them in our camper during trips, so it'll be better to keep them a little darker for them. Secondly, I'm hoping that it helps with insulation for noise, lol.

I have a cover on the top and 3 sides (not front) at all times. It helps make it darker for them so that they can rest easier.
