They should groom it off, yes. But I've also groomed my girls when necessary. Once Luna smeared poop all over her butt, and I wanted to snuggle, but I didn't want to get poo on me, so I cleaned her myself. And Soleil has peed all over herself before, and I've cleaned her.
My girls spend most of the day in my shirt, so if I go to get them and one is seriously dirty, I'll use some water and my finger or a wash cloth to clean them up a bit. Gliders don't like water, so I get water on my finger or wash cloth and then clean them. I've never made my girls touch running water. And I never use soap, because I don't want them to get soap in their mouths later when they clean themselves.
I've also used spit and my finger to clean off bits of dried fruit juices from their faces (they usually eat and then PASS out when the sun comes up, and that sometimes means they wake up with food on their faces when I get them out).
Soleil doesn't like to sit still for anything, and she's not a big fan of me grooming her. But Luna seems to like it. As long as I only use a little water and don't really get her wet, Luna seems down with the whole thing. I've actually had her groom me after I cleaned her up, so I thinks she knows what I'm doing. She's also just a HUGE sweetie all the time. |
