I recently ran across a closed group on Facebook named Sugar Glider. I was wondering if anyone here is part of the group or has concerns about it? So far, their admins seem very upfront and only concerned about proper care of suggies. This is purely out of my own curiosity...

That's pretty sad. o.o

I purely started a sugar glider page just for fun. And, worst cases will just be to encouraged them to vet visits (eg, broken tails etc.).

Mine's slightly different is that I draw artworks concerning my sugar gliders and their journey in my life. :)

Hah, I joined this group this morning, made three posts throughout the day and got bashed every time. 1. Was told only to referead to their website for info. 2. Was told not to promote outside of their website when I posted a pdf from a published book that was nothing more than Ca:P ratios of fruits and veggies. 3. Was told to go color in a coloring book when I asked if anyone had academic information regarding gliders... i.e. documented diseases, studies etc. When I tried to block the users making negative comments the ad mins threatend to ban me from the group >.> so I left. I now remember why I haven't used FB in 2 years.

I left the forums for FB groups almost a year ago, I think.
You get A LOT more feedback on there than in the forums.
MANY experienced owners have left the forums as well.

Yes, there's "drama". It's inevitable. It's not just high school stuff. "Drama" is everywhere.
Especially when you have WAY MORE people than forums do.
But, for the most part, it happens because people are too sensitive (to them EVERYTHING is bashing) or because their egos are too important for them to admit that they are wrong.

I am a member of Sugar Gliders and, imo, it's one of the best groups out there.
No sugar coating. They'll say it like it is.

I am also a member of Sugar Glider Fanatics. Although certainly not the worst, that group has some questionable people in there advertising gliders sooo yeah. I'll leave it at that. XD

I appreciate your perspectives. I don't offend easily (or sometimes at all) so I feel like I am equipped to handle the Facebook stress of "new member trolls". I also feel like the ratio of helpful info vs obnoxious minutiae depends on the day/topic. I appreciate that this group is so amazing that they are the best 1st choice but I am a girl that requires many options. I was only wondering if there were any PP type concerns of misinformation or harmful and unapologetic members. I love this source group and I will always start here, after research and common animal sense, but I am in need of information overload. That is just the way I am! Thank you all for reading and responding!

The only sugar glider related FB groups I am part of are a few rescues like Save Our Suggies (SOS), and then groups that support rescues and people in need like Help a Glider (HAG); just to mention a couple (not a fan of FB, I don't even have a real account ).

I don't participate much in discussions and such, but they are small groups, and I haven't seen to much drama. I know the creators in person (part of the reason why I joined), and they are very strict people.

I mostly stick to this forum and Glider Central, though.

One thing about the fb groups, whether you find a good one or one with good intentions, when there is good information posted, it won't be there to access down the road. Forums, such as these you can find just about anything, or ask new if you can't find it, and it will be there down the way. I don't encourage fb, there is too much benefit from forums such as this one and others as well.

Eh, I've joined a couple closed glider groups on fb. I don't participate/post much on them though. I usually just lurk One I joined recently is a pretty big group and it seems like there is bickering on it every day and the moderators of the group are just as bad as the members of it when it comes to "drama" and whining. However, there is equally as many people who are supportive, helpful and sincere.

They can be a good place to just sit and observe, find new food things or toy ideas or vendors etc.... But it's not a place I would go for advice on anything important. I've seen some advice that makes me just say "realllly?" Stupid is everywhere, but mostly online

Do not i repeat DO NOT join any facebook groups... Nothing but a bunch of a-holes. Their main concern is who is more capable of taking care of a sugar glider and who does it better and who is more dedicated to their gliders. They are not worried about helping others and blame you for "not doing research" just because you ask a simple question... Personal experience. Just stay here.
