So I had hamsters and mice growing up, and when i heard that gliders needed a wheel i assumed they would use it like the rodents do. How wrong i was. Instead, mine do something highly amusing each that allows me to identify exactly who is in the wheel at any point in time just by the sound it's making.
Elysium likes to run hard and build up as much speed as she can, before sticking her head and shoulders out of one of three entrance holes on the wheel. Then she stays there as the wheel spins until it loses momentum, letting her whip around half outside. Sometimes she clings to the space inside between two holes for the same effect. So if i hear a mad scrabbling of claws followed by the absence of said claws, i know it's her.
Jericho is heftier than her, and tends to make the cage shake with her wheel running. And she likes to hop in the wheel. That's right, Jericho never runs on the wheel. She just hops and bounces. So when i hear the heavy sounds of "Thunk! Thunk! Thunk!" I know Jericho is on the wheel.
Sometimes they like to be in the wheel at the same time, so what ends up happening is while Jericho spins it with her hopping, Elysium pokes her head out and gets an even longer spin than she can accomplish on her own lmao. They're both so weird and I love them for this. |
