Hello all I need a bit of help Ive had gizmo for almost 6 years now before shooting me down for not having more than one keep in mind my parents wont allow it Ive been taking good care of him according to my family and now that we have moved he is now a permenant resident in my room where he gets plenty attention he however doesnt seem to be bonding with me like he used to be.

I adopted gizmo 6 or so years ago when his owners were no longer able to care for him and his partner passed away while in the bonding tent my dad found him for me and after hearing of my love of these adorable and fasinating creaturea he brought my little guy home. I tried for years to find him a friend but I couldnt and no amount of begging could change my parents mind. I later came to find out that my dad never asked my mom if I could have him and I live with them its not that they dont want too its that we cant and Im dead set on keeping him happy and healthy which is why I came here to learn more and give my gizmo a wonderful life.

Thats where I come to my first topic (not my last trust me) but after hearing that sugar gliders can have dehydrated fruit and that it was a super healthy snack for them and something they enjoyed I started looking into it keep in mind Im a college student only able to work at my job on weekend so I dont get payed a ton so this idea captured ny attention rather fast. After saving up a bit I decided to buy the dehydrater and Ive been experimenting ever since. This is where my question comes in but what are some other things I can give him or make him to keep him happy and healthy along with his other food and stuff and what fruits and veggies are best for him. Thank you again for any help you guys are able to provide me with its so appriciated and with your help I know I'll be able to not only bond with him bit keep him healthy for many years to come he's my best friend even if Im not his quiet yet but I'm more than ever determined to get there.

ive had my glider for about 2 years now. before i was strict upon what i give them because i didnt want to risk my babies life seeing that some foods have not been discovered safe or toxic for them. i loosened up a bit with what i feed them so heres some snacks my babies love a lot (as snacks not daily treats)

cheerios , people give the honey but my kiddo loves fruits & veggies so he loves the strawberry blueberry cheerios and he eats them like bagels.

yogurt drops , my mom gets it from costco. they're the white ones. some people give them white chocolate with no cocoa in them, but i would rather just insist yogurt drops. i recently experimented with the baby food yogurt from the store, theyre strawberry yogurt drops all natural flavor, they both love it.

honey , i feel like this is essential to wht they eat anyway but i only give it to them as snacks.

waffle , i read that they can have it even though theres flour in it which is hard for them to digest. i only gave them some 2 days ago (they're still alive so it'll be a monthly treat from now on) and i plan to once every 1-2 months.

veggies that are safe for them to have:
celery, bak choy, carrots, kale , lettuce , cucumber , beets

i usually just give them the baby food in a jar/bag. super cheap and lasts very long to feed them. i dont do the whole sugar glider based diet or pellets since pellets are bad to their system and the based diet i know my kids are picky and will go on a hunger strike if they dont want it.

So glad you felt safe enough to reach out and share your thoughts and concerns. It's obvious how much you love your little one and it sounds like he's getting great care. The fact that you've had him this long is a great testament to your devotion!

I have a single glider as well. After being turned down by breeders who refused to let me adopt just one glider, I learned of a breeder who assured me that the most important thing is to give our sugar babies lots of love and attention. My sweet Gracie is the love of my life. She goes everywhere with me, even to the dentist (in a zippered bonding pouch of course). Since she is a single glider, I'm constantly on the look out for signs that sometimes come with gliders who are kept alone...like depression, self mutilation, and loneliness. So far she seems extremely happy and well adjusted. Like the breeder told me, YOU are her companion. I may get another glider some day. But for now, I'm a better 'mom' to Gracie than if I were to take on more than I am comfortable with or able to at the moment. I'm so sorry that you have experienced guilt from people. I know how upsetting that can be. Just yesteday I had someone come to my house to do some work. I had never met him before and when he learned I had a sugar glider his first question was "why don't you have another one?" It's difficult at times, but when I question my decision to have just one glider, I remind myself how much I love Gracie and am doing my best to care for her and give her loads of attention.

Besides eating her basic staple (BML) and fresh fruits and veggies for mealtimes, I give her yogurt drops and dried fruits for treats, along with occasional scrambled or hard boiled eggs, yogurt, applesauce, and boiled chicken (unseasoned).

Keep enjoying your precious Gizmo!

I like to feed mine yoghurt drops designed for babies, a bit of fresh yougurt, baby food, honey sticks, stuff like that as treats. If it's safe for them to eat then I usually try to share a bit of what I'm eating with them, they each have their own preferences. Mine also like dried fruit and they LOVE mealworms which aren't hard to raise, but make sure to wear a dust mask when tending them if you do raise them as they're easy to develop an allergy to.

Don't feel too bad about only having one, it's out of your control and you're doing the best you can with him, if he's been with you that long you're probably doing fine with him. Do you carry him in a bonding pouch during the day? I take mine to class sometimes and the person I bought them from brings hers to class often too.

Thank you so much for responding ptamom and thank you so much for the suggestions I will be sure to give them a try and thanks the little guy means the world to me. I was so afraid to come here and talk because I was afraid I'd be judged for having one glider instead of two. One of my friend who has six gliders would say all the time if you don't get him a friend he's gonna die for sure, and no matter how hard I tried my parents said no and even when I told her that she guilted me for it. I've spent days and nights researching on how to keep him happy, and everything would say they will die if they are alone or said if you have one sugar glider than you shouldn't even have one all you're doing is keeping them unhappy. I hope I get the same kindness here that I've gotten from you it really truly means a lot to have a place to go to voice my concerns where I know there are people who understand what I'm going through and love these beautiful little creatures as much as I do. Sorry for the long post it's just hard for me to put my problems out there sometimes thank you so much for your kindness and I'll keep updates on how it goes.

I am a newbie and by no means an expert.

I know that I have bought yogurt drops (which to me appears to be dehydrated marshmallows), dried pineapple, mango, and coconut.

I would go on Etsy and see that they sell and do a search for food.

Thank you for adopting Gizmo into your life.
