My female sugar glider has a Joey in her pouch, it isn't old enough to come out but it's getting pretty big. Every night almost, I catch her shoving her face into her pouch, almost like she's cleaning her Joey. Is this normal? And is she cleaning the Joey, I is something wrong?

Thank you so much! I appreciate it a lot. I give mine the TPG diet and since I found out about the Joey I've been giving them an equal amount of their favorite fruits, veggies, and eggs for their treats. I've been giving them less yogurt as well, I'm trying to just give them "healthy" stuff (I'm not giving them unsafe yogurt, I promise.) I also make sure to give them enough of their tpg food for there to be a little exra in the morning.

I have read stuff from suzsugargliders, when I found out they had a Joey. I will make sure to check out the Facebook page though.

that situation happens a lot, if they aren't lineaged gliders I'd def get the dad neutered in the near future.

First time parents are at a higher risk of either rejecting or cannibalizing the joey/s, there is no way to predict if either will happen or not. '

The most you can do is educate yourself, This site below is excellent for learning about breeding, the different stages, weights, rejection, hand raising etc...
http://www.suzsugargliders.com/breedingsugargliders.htm

be as prepared as you possibly can be, feed them a good widely used balanced diet.

( give an extra portion of staple, a little extra fruits n veg ) while mom has joey in pouch, which will also serve as the joeys portion when mom and dad start to ween the joey and teach it to eat)

Many people say to give extra protein for the mom but really you need to give extra of everything equally so the diet remains balanced and mom gets what she needs while nursing.

Another AWESOME resource is the breeding 101 group on facebook. It's a breeding educational group and seriously it's strictly about breeding and breeding related questions and info. The group has loads of reputable breeders, new and experienced, it's a non judgmental group with 0 drama. There are 3 simple questions ( i think) you will be asked when you join to get approved, if for any reason you need help with that let me know ( I'm not sure what the questions are )

https://www.facebook.com/groups/breeding101/

Those are probably the 2 best places to learn about breeding, even if this is the only joey you will have and don't plan on breeding more

try not to stress to much, or stress the pair to much

I think we're neutering dad soon, we didn't necessarily want to breed them but it happened quite quickly (before we had time to get him neutered) now we just have to make time for a two hour trip to the vet.
Do you know the likelihood of them rejected the joey?
This is all three of ours first.

ty yeh lol this joey was the Dads first, Mom was a breeder before she came to me. I got 3 single joeys before we neutered Dad.

They were awesome parents, I just didn't have any more room to let them keep breeding.

it's normal and yes she's cleaning the joey. My Cocoa would open and hold her pouch open with her hands to clean the joey lol it's awesome to watch I have videos somewhere I'll see if I can find them
