Ok so i posted like 10 days ago and ive been taking care of a rejected joey. Today is day 12 and hes not really gaining weight. Hes eating just fine and pottying. One of his eyes is open. Hes just so little. Hes only 12g. This is him compared to his brother, who the parents are caring for.

Now this is stuff I always feel out of my depth about, so I always double check with more experienced breeders before I give advice. The advice I was told to give you is that at his age, he needs to be fed about every 30 minutes around the clock. He is likely weak and dehydrated from going so long in between

A friend of mine is going through this, she probably is one of a couple people with the most experience with rejected babies. If your on facebook I can get you two connected and she can guide you through stuff better than I can.

Leela Posted - Jul 10 2018 : 05:29:53 PM
ohhh goood deal!! I'm glad you paid attention to that even though I forgot lol
Kstacit Posted - Jul 10 2018 : 05:13:13 PM
I did read that :) i premixed veg and fruits seperately and put them in jars so i just have to scoop them out and serve :) thank you!!
Leela Posted - Jul 10 2018 : 04:35:29 PM
oh thats fantastic!!! I'm so glad it's working out for all of them!

I didn't mention this before because our focus was on lilbit, but there is a strict list of fruits n veg that is fed with bml. The fruit and veg are part of what makes the diet balanced so if you haven't started using them with it, you should. The allowed fruits n veg are...

apple
any kind of melon
grapes
cherries
blueberries

peas
carrots
corn
green beans

and if you buy a bag of frozen mixed veg, there is usually lima beans in them, they are ok to feed and aren't many of them

make sure you don't get a soup blend mix there are usually onions in those blends.

This is also listed under the recipe on the bml website if you need the list again.

His eyes are both fully open now and he seems to have a lot more energy. As of yesterday he hadnt gained any weight. I am still at work now so i don't have a scale, but all of the gliders like the new food and its so much easier in the evenings too! I will weigh him this evening and see of there is a change :)

Hows things going??
Leela Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 06:22:40 PM
good luck let us know how he does
Kstacit Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 05:33:15 PM
So awesome. Just made two batches and am about to feed the baby now! #128513;
Leela Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 02:48:31 PM
When the baby hits about 5-6 weeks out of pouch he can have the normal bml with wheatgerm in it. Thats about when mom n dad start to teach joeys to eat regular food at the plate
Kstacit Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 02:04:57 PM
Im going to switch them all over today :)
Leela Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 01:11:56 PM
ohhh thats rough! lol well hopefully this will fill him up a little better and give him more of what he needs. It really is a good diet, and probably will be cheaper than exotic nutritions in the long run...

I'm not a fan of any of their food items they just don't provide enough vitamins and minerals and there have been sooo many gliders that don't do well on their food. If your open to switching over entirely that is what I'd suggest, especially for mom if she keeps breeding.

Kstacit Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 01:05:43 PM
Not much at all! Lol and working extra too. I so appreciate you! The nipples are great! So glad i ordered
Leela Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 01:04:18 PM
Ohh perfect!! those miracle nipples are amazing!

Ok water the bml down I'd say 50/50 water to bml for the first couple of days then gradually reduce how much water you add as you go.

Your doing a great job so don't get discouraged!! it's a really hard thing to hand raise a joey like that, I'm sure your not getting much sleep lol

Kstacit Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 01:00:32 PM
Thank you!!! I'll get all this today. Very much appreciate it! I am using a needle less syringe and i have a miracle mini nipple as well He does pretty good with. He definitely wars to survive.
Leela Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 12:55:33 PM
alright awesome, he needs the most nutrition he can get. http://www.bmldiet.com/bml-recipe.html

Ok This recipe is for adult gliders, I'm going to need to you to pay attention carefully to MY instructions not the recipe instructions. Normally we don't suggest modifying diet recipes, this modification is done by the diet creator herself specifically for hand feeding joeys.

The recipe needs modified for young babies, you HAVE to leave out the wheat germ. It can produce to much gas for a young joey like yours.

You CAN make two separate batches, one batch with the wheat germ for your adult gliders, which will help mom and provide more of what she needs to keep nursing the bigger joey. All your other gliders would benefit from Bml.

And the second batch WITHOUT the wheatgerm for the lil guy your hand feeding. Once his batch is made, you can water it down a little before each feeding.

But make sure you label which is the joeys and which is the adults so you don't get them mixed up.

All the ingredients can be found at your local grocery store and pet store, just measure everything (minus the wheatgerm ) dump it in a blender and blend the crap out of it.

What are you using to feed the joey?? like needless syringe?
Kstacit Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 12:44:28 PM
I definitely can get supplies. Appreciate the help
Leela Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 12:40:46 PM
ah ok no that won't do, and that diet might be why mom couldn't produce enough milk for 2.

Ok, you can do this! Can you get some supplies ?

Kstacit Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 12:34:10 PM
Its exotic nutrition pellets.
Leela Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 12:33:02 PM
glider complete as in critter love hpw complete? Can you upload pics of the diet packaging? I'm trying to figure out if what you have can be used to feed the joey.
Kstacit Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 12:32:07 PM
They get glider complete, instant hpw, gumivore-fare, and they get yogurt with raw honey, fresh fruit and veg and chicken or eggs.
Leela Posted - Jul 08 2018 : 12:30:03 PM
that maybe why, what diet do you feed your other gliders?
