Amber is a character.
She is about two years old, according to her former owner. We were contacted by an animal rescuer that we know who rescued her. It is believed she was super stressed out at her home before. She overgroomed, she was thin, and she is AGGRESSIVE.
THree months later let me tell you the personality of Amber, the most cuddly yet aggressive sugar glider known to man.
She has recently been paired up with Lucas, our neutered male who we had a before. They get along swimmingly. I've heard horror stories about introductions but honestly, from the moment we introduced them, it was like they had known each other their whole lives. Maybe they were both just so lonely. Two months later, they haven't missed a beat.
Amber is wonderful with Lucas, a beloved terror with everyone else.
We feed her worms as treats sparingly because of an apparent disdain for yogurt she has shown. Once you give her a treat its like switch. You begin to pet her and she's all into it. She cranes her neck for you to get her good spot. She drifts off into the oblivion that comes with a good massage. She's licking in utter bliss. Then she snaps, and goes forward with teeth. SHe'll bite you out of nowhere. Too late with the worm? bite. Just spending time with your gliders in your shirt? bite. Not even doing anything just scratching her good spot? bite. Surprisingly she has never, ever, ever, despite all the biting, crabbed.
I understand she might never be the cuddliest glider, but her behavior is just so odd. ANy advice on getting her to warm up? Either way, I already love her to bits. |

i can agree with sjusovare, I have a very friendly glider that the more time
I spend with him the more things he finds to groom or check out. is that
smelly toe in the sock tasty? test bite, but not a defensive bite or aggressive
bite but a checking to see if the toe is tasty bite. he finds a small spot on
my arm, then he starts grooming getting harder and harder till he gets it all
bloody if I don't stop him. If I move him away he may move to my leg and
find a spot to overgroom.
once in a long time another one gizmo with just turn on me and give me a strong
bite, NOT drawing blood, but hard enough to tell me to leave him alone or say he
is unhappy, I can even pick him up after the bite so it's not like he will bite
me again.
you say 2 months, maybe she just needs more time adjusting to you or humans
in general. |

To me it sounds more like agressive grooming than real bite, that's what mines do, it always starts by licking, then they scrap their teeth and then if they are not stopped they go full way trying to remove whatever they think is not not normal with their teeth. |
