good evening everyone! i am a recent parent of two 1-2 year old sugars. to make a long story short, their previous (pet hoarder) owner's trailer caught on fire, and i am now keeping them. the previous owner didn't even give them names, because she had so many pets. ): she was feeding them apples, carrots, eggs, and vitamix pellets. they had never even had a mealworm before the person i just adopted them from today gave them some. so my current predicament is that i have suddenly have two sugar gliders and no set diet to feed them! i have ordered a critterlove sample pack to try it out but that will take at least a week to get here. in the meantime, i have purchased the following ingredients: mango, papaya, blueberries, kiwi, several apple varieties, pears, celery, beets, bok choy, carrots, kale, parsley, cilantro, turnip greens, green bell peppers, mustard greens, collard greens, button mushrooms, honey, eggs. i bought things that were described as side dishes for the CLO diet, so i am set in that department. however, i need to feed them something in the meantime! i have scoured the forum for suggestions, but i'm hoping some members might have meal breakdowns that would satisfy the temporary needs of these poor little girls while we wait for their food to arrive. i can go and purchase anything else, but since they will soon be on a proper diet i am hoping to get things that can be reused/eaten by me (i have a soy & whey intolerance). i know they probably need a vitamin added to their soup for now, does anybody have any recommendations? i am in the SE USA. thank you very much for your help in advance! |

@BYK_Chainsaw thank you for the advice, i am planning to get them on a staple diet once the powder arrives, but for now i am kind of 'winging it' while we wait for the package to arrive. i have looked at kazko's diet www.sugarglider.com/gliderpedia/index.asp?KazkosDiet
and it seems to be a good temporary solution. if anybody has any advice specific to this diet (ie good ratios using the ingredients i already have) i am all ears. thanks! |

I would suggest skip the vitamin. a good diet will have that in it. two popular diets are BML and critterlove/ohpw. I use OHPW. A BML user on here sometimes, said they liked that diet (bml) cause you can get, i think, all the ingredients at your local grocery store. I use the critter love fruit and veggie salad. but I buy wombaroo powder and make up OHPW for them. it has the vitamins and stuff they need. I would suggest NOT the instant critterlove if you get that one, but get the one you have to add the honey and eggs too, the glider like that a TON More, they will eat the instant. the OHPW and critterlove are the same, I just buy wombaroo instead of critterlove powder, at one time I calculated the price for ohpw is alittle cheaper. also RAW honey is highly suggested on critterlove website over pasterized honey. store honey is usually pasterized, the raw honey has a scare myth to it, just not good for babies to have raw honey, everyone else its ok. we were told at one time you can give them some cooked egg or ,i think, broached (boiled) chicken as a temp protein source. BML makers says its easy diet, I think once you make up OHPW and salad it is an easy diet to make, I have a good raw honey suppler (HONEY NEVER SPOILS so I buy several gallons at a time) and you need to have some good freezer space for all the frozen stuff, but I make for 6 gliders and like to make larger amounts less often, I have 7 liters ohpw made up, 3 gallons fruit and about 4 gallons veggies in my extra freezer. MEALWORM TIME, LINE UP!!
