I have a five year old sugar glider who has lost almost half his body weight over the past few months. Six weeks ago, I took him to the vet who found he had worms. I treated him and the entire colony over the past 6 weeks, and while the other gliders have regained some of the weight they lost, little Boo is still losing weight. The last worm treatment was last week, but he lost an additional 11 grams since the last treatment. I called my vet this morning to try to get him back in, but she is at a conference and won't be back in the office until next Wednesday. There are no other vets who treat these little guys anywhere close to where I live, so I am kind of stuck with just the one vet.
In addition to the extreme weight loss, last night he started hissing and making the noise that I always associate with my sugar gliders being in pain. He is eating well, but the last couple of days when I give him his meal worms, he licks them rather than biting them and seems to be sucking what he can out of the skin instead of biting them and chewing them up.
I lost another little guy a couple of years ago, and he was hissing and making that same sound the night before he died. I would appreciate any suggestions on what I can do to keep this little guy going until he can see his vet next week. I do have some antibiotic if anyone thinks that might be helpful. |
