I am wondering if we are doing things correctly when it comes to bonding. 5 months ago we finally got a sugar glider. A Joey male my wife named Tux. A few days later we adopted a female named Layla. She is only 2 months older then him. She was mishandled by her previous owner. She was very mean and crabby.

We do not get them out of their cages every day. If it was up to Tux, he would be out everday with me. He isn't always wanting to cuddle but when he does, he falls right to sleep. I'm the only one he does this with. Every time he hears me talking he comes straight out of his bag and paces on the cage door , sometimes chirping at me. I know he just wants out . When I do open that door, be prepared hes coming out. He seems excited when he gets out, first thing he does is run to my shoulder, grooms my ear for a second while chirping. Sometimes he pee on me, like tiny little drops(IDK if that means anything). Then he goes to explore. He doesnt hide or run away. He gets right back on me if I put my hand out. But Let's both of us pick him up..

Now, miss Layla. She has changed so much. She doesnt act as scared anymore and she comes right out of her bag if she hears me or my wife. She always goes straight to my wife but doesnt really want out of her cage to much either. When she does get out she runs around being crazy only spending a few seconds at a time on my wife, in the tent she still acts a little skiddish as well.. I have finally got to where I can pet her in her bag. She loves it when my wife gives her pets in her pouch. I like to have cried the other day when Layla let me hold her for the first time for over an hour and she slept in my hands while holding my fingers and using them as her pillow. This has taken months to get this far with her..

They are in their own cages but they get along wonderfully.

Are we not spending enough time with them? To me I feel like we have made great progress without being pushy. I want to make sure we are not being too distant. There may be 3 or 4 days go by we dont let them out. We do talk to them every morning before work and evening before bed.

Side note: a few weeks ago we adopted a bro and sis Joey's. Named Chip and Bell. Chip is very aggressive. They have their own cage as well. But it seems like the same way Tux and Layla started. We are taking our time with the new additions. We absolutely have to keep the babys cage way away from Layla and Tux cage. The babys try to attack as soon as they see Layla or tux. Even from 3 feet away in seperate cages. I've had to grab Tux a few times as he has jumped to their cage to investigate. They both immediately go after him and I'm usually stuck with Tux having his teeth in my finger with his eyes closed. As soon as he opens his eyes and realizes it's me he let's go, then he goes to licking my finger or snuggle his head up to my neck. I do not freak out no matter how bad it hurts.I fear we will have to keep the babies seperated permanently.

You are doing an amazing job with bonding. Tux is scent marking you and claiming you for his own when he pees on you. From what you've written here, you are doing wonderfully well.
