I got some meal worms last week at a pet store and they had them in what looked like potting soil. I have never seen them kept in dirt. Is it ok to keep them in dirt? I dont know where they got the top soil/dirt so im not going to feed the worms to the gliders and i dont think i will be going back the that store( it only 4 blocks away). In a few weeks my farm should have a ton feeder size and i will NEVER have to go into a pet store again.... Well except for cat food.. anyone know how to farm cat food.

I have never heard of mealworms being kept in dirt. You are right to doubt this. Personally - I wouldnt feed them to the suggies. Dont know what is in that "dirt".

Do you have any pupae? Suggies love to eat those, too.

If you have a local pet food store (not a chain), they often have freebies of dog and cat food to take home as demos. I recommend targeting the dog food as it has less protein and more other stuff which is a better diet for the sugars.

Great suggestion, Terry!!!! And I agree with the dog food. As soon as this small bag of catfood is gone - Im switching their kibble to dogfood.

The soil seems a bit odd. I wouldn't use them either for fear of fertilizers in the soil. The worms eat vegetation, so there really isn't much for them to feed on in the soil. The packaging in soil seems similar to fish bait, as earth worms and grubs, typical live fish bait, are kept in soil. I think someone could have gotten confused a bit and put the meal worms in dirt as that's how other common worms are stored.

Yeah thats what i thought. The meal worms are now free as long as they can get out of the bird feeder outside. The cat food is for my cats lol, not my gliders. Thanks for the info.

LOL,i dont think that is saw dust.It looks like saw dust but its like, oat bran or something like that.
