Many states don't have it listed on their state site because it is up to particular cities.

Ok, as my last working brain cell bounces back & fourth against the skull of mine.

To my personal know of, there is NO permits required in and/or around this areas of the state. An are NOT illegal either!

The Olympia area (miss doolittle's area), out to the Lake Wood / Tacoma area (loveydovey's area). Then heading out to the Ellensburg area (salamnder's area) & across the the Kirkland area (were my vet is).

I can say that there has not been any mention of restrix's on the glider critters from these few points of the state, were the other glider owners are lotated.

I hope that this does help some / many / anybody that was asking the restrix's questions. Sorry that I can't answer for the rest of the city areas of the state. I could try an find my other brain cell that left the light off, & no nite-light on. An look up the rest of the city area's if need be, but like I said. I know for a fact on the other city area's!

I'm in Vancouver, WA and the only change for Washington that I’ve heard of is that suggies are no longer able to be sold by pet shops. And I for one am very happy about that change. One of my female suggies is a victim of a pet shop that didn't give proper or even preferred feeding/care information to the person who purchased her. The pet shop advised a baby food fruit and lorikeet diet only for the glider. The pet shop is not in business anymore.
I'm the 3rd owner of her. When she came to me she was still tiny and light weight. You couldn't tell that there was anything in the bonding pouch. This is following several months of improvement credited to the 2nd owner’s hard work and my guidance.
The 2nd owner “a future vet and friend of my daughter” made necessary changes in caring for and in diet. Easing over to the bml diet with many colors of the rainbow in variety and rotational items added slowly. After several months she asked me to give the growing sweet girl a good home as she felt the glider needed more than she could give to her at this time. Though still small Tinkerbelle is catching up and is quite happy and healthy. Ltigger

Sugar gliders are unclassified in Washington. This means they are considered to be neither wildlife, nor deleterious exotic wildlife. Therefore, the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife has no regulations that would prohibit, or otherwise restrict the ownership, or possession of sugar gliders within this state. Importation of sugar gliders into Washington is regulated by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. Lawful importation requires the completion of an interstate certificate of veterinary inspection by a licensed accredited veterinarian in the state of origin. Additionally, an import permit must be issued by the Washington State Department of Agriculture, Office of the State Veterinarian. These requirements must be compiled with prior to the animal being brought into this state. Local jurisdictions may have adopted ordinances which regulate possession and/or care of sugar gliders (there is no central clearing house for such ordinances). One interested in acquiring a sugar glider should check with their local animal control authorities, law enforcement agency, or health department for any applicable local regulations. As indicated in paragraph 2 of 3CSR10-9.110, a sugar glider (a non-native mammal which is not federally-designated as threatened or endangered, nor listed in 3CSR10-9.240) "...may be bought, sold, possessed, transported and exhibited without permit...." Releasing a sugar glider to the wild or allowing one to escape to the wild would be an infraction of 3CSR10-4.110.

The state does not require persons possessing exotic animals to obtain a permit. This is governed by city or county regulations. However, persons who are bringing exotic animals into the state are required to obtain a health certificate from a veterinarian and present it to the Department of Agriculture. We live in tacoma, my husband works at Ft. Lewis. There are rehoming and supplies (like suggie cages) in the classifieds all the time. There are vets in the area that are really good with gliders. If you want a recomendation let me know. Point being there seems to be a healthy community for them. Word of caution the only exotic pet store near ft. lewis is called the wild side, and they have okay supplies like bedding, bowls, ferret pouches, and some cages... BUT avoid thier suggie advice, don't buy suggies from them, and do not buy thier bulk mix suggie foods. Thank everyone on this cite, or i still may not know better.

Yes the only pet store that has the name exotic in it is the "wild side" in puyallup. But honestly the best place to get your mealies is at a place called "Fish & Pet Store" off of Pac Ave in Parkland next to the Kmart.
I pay about $13.00 after tax for 500 count. Their king mealies are the basic 10 for $1.00, an depending on the sale person. They let you pink out certain worms if you like, we (fur butts) like the fresh molted ones.(VERY PINK ONES!)
Granted this pet store does not have the glider-aid, but the "wild side" charges like $24 plus tax. Internet is alot cheaper, you get a pound or so for about $42. Which covers shipping also.
I go to "petco or pet smart" for the snuggies. Granted the snuggies are not specially gliders only, but with a 6 member coloney. I have to get the bigger snuggies anyway.I pay bout $24 after tax for the sunggies that are square shaped, like a pillow sham type design.
Just have to shop around a little, plus there is a place that is located in Everette, (think) that specializes in mealies, crikets, ect. Just like all the other pet stores. Its called "Northwest Zoological insect supplier"

So all

An yes there a few good vets around the Tacoma area, 1 that I own of someone using. A few are in Seattle, an the vet in Kirkland is truly GREAT! She did her studies in Australia, worked there for several years in the zoo's and resuce shelters. Plus, she has 2 basic diets published in glider world.Dr Cathy Johnson-Delaney's suggested Sugar Glider Diet(s), Diet 1 & Diet 2. An when EVER I have a food, flower, health question, they peolpe are quick to get you the answers. An most of the time my vet answers the questions, meaning that the staff does not answer my question unless they double check the answers with the vet.
Here is a list of all the exotic vets that have specified that they do see gliders. Some exotic vets that are listed in the net or yellow pages do not say if they specify in gliders or the other pocket type pets.

I believe Georgia is now legal. I also think that St. Paul, Minnesota, just enforced some restrictions if anyone has info on that.

As far as I know, the only major restriction in St. Paul is that you can't sell them any longer. So they are not allowed at fairs etc.
