Bald spots on girly gliders?
Bald spots on girly gliders?

I have two girl gliders, Moo and Foo. They are both about one year old and they seem very healthy and sleek but I have noticed that they are both sporting tiny symmetrical bald spots above each eyebrow. Is this a normal thing? I know that the boy gliders get the big bald spot in the middle of the forehead but none of my glider books cover girly bald spots. Ideas?

I hope I did that correctly. Anyway this is Foo, can you see the spots? I think that it will be a few days before she forgives me for taking that picture ^_^

possibly stress related. What are their living conditions like? Do you have other animals? Are there any children involved?

Oh what a pretty little girl. I love their names-Foo and Moo. I don't think it's very noticeable, the little spots your talking about. Maybe it's genetic and those sisters have this ordeal where they have "kalick" type things or some interesting gilder hair loss.

hair loss due to stress can start above the eyes. If this is due to over grooming, then a trip to the vet to check for mites or other skin issues is in order.

Hmmm They have a pretty big cage, it is about as tall as I am and maybe two and a half by one and a half feet wide. T
hey get a freshly laundered sleepingbag every day. They exercise alot too, they have two wheels for running. No other pets, just me and my husband live with them.
I think thier diet is pretty good, I give them a calcium suppliment, but I plan to give them more protein just in case. They are pretty big in size but not fat I think. They aren't doing the droopy glider thing and they don't seem depressed. I haven't seen them scratching at all and thier skin and eyes look good. I even checked thier underbellies and that looks good. I'm thinking about trying that HPW diet, what do you guys think?

Have you taken them to the vet to check for mites? Unless you have a microscope at home and know what to look for, that's one thing that's still a possibility.

The daily change of the pouch could be causing stress. I would imagine that for them it seems like they're always in a "new" place as their current nesting area doesn't smell like them.

Wow really? I thought that a clean pouch made for a healthier glider. Hmmm I keep thier pouch in a hanging cloth cube that I don't wash as often, is that enough of thier smell to keep them happy? If not how often should I change out the pouches?

I don't change mine until they're smelly but I also keep lots and lots of little pieces of fleece cut into little "blankies" so even if I change out the pouch, I try to keep a few of those in there that still have their scent. Wow, my English teacher would have hated that long sentence. LOL

Hmm I agree with Eric, I think maybe stress/mites or maybe even ringworm which can also be caught by humans, actually so can the mites. Have you been to the vet yet????

nope not yet, im think about taking her in a week or so just to be sure. I've heard there is a vet with sugarglider experience in town. But ringworm or mites wouldn't cause symmetrical markings would they? Also, they've had the exact same bald spots for about a year now and my husband and I are the only ones who have ever touched them since we got them from the breeder.
