I have been a glider owner for appx. 6 months and I would love to know why the Leucistic(a-z) and White Face Blondes are so much more popular and expensive. And on some of the breeding pages it says things like 66% leu bla bla bla. I'm just not following. I saw a website selling some all white gliders for $1500&up. I just need help understanding this. I used to have a salmon hypo bearded dragon...but we bought him for regular price and didn't realize he was worth much more than a regular bearded dragon, so I get it..but then again..I don't. I dont understand why someone would sell a glider for $1500 and then why someone would buy a glider for $1500 just because they have a white face?...someone help me understand this.

good question! i think it has alot to do with just the colors. just like some breeds of dogs are more expensive because of their colors. if my husbands dogs ever bred and they had a blue puppy,i think they would sell for 2,000.00 or more. i can't back that up though because they've never bred and it has been a few years since i've seen one. but yeah, i think it has to do with just their colors.

I really dont understand the leu and het thing either but I do know that the reason why certain color of gliders are more expensive because they are more rare. Standard grey is pretty common therefore they are less expensive but the albino or pure white with black eyes are rare so they cost more. Yes I agree the pricing is insane! I am perfectly happy with my glider that DID NOT cost me $1500 lol. But I guess if people are willing to pay for it they will be charged that amount.

So, could a white one just come from a pair of standard greys? Or is it form inbreeding? I think they are all cute no matter what color they are. But the white faced blondes look almost the exact same as the standard greys to me. Except they have alittle less black on their face. Doesnt seem worth 400 extra dollars...or whatever.

I think the standard greys are just as beautiful... it's really all in the personality if you ask me! I just got lucky with my wfb's b/c the lady I bought mine from had two in the pouch and I just told her I wanted them no matter what color they were. Turns out they were wfb's instead of standard greys. brother and sister... so it was perfect. We wanted siblings!!! :)As far as the inbreeding thing goes I don't think it is always the case. The lady I bought from bought her gliders from two different people with two different complete lines. But I don't know enough about the breeding since I don't ever plan on doing it.

I didn't know if it was ever the case (inbreeding making them all white). I just have been told that, inbreeding can cause albino's and what not in other animals. I don't really know. I'm like you, I know next to nothing about breeding. So were the parents standard greys? So standard greys can make diff. color babies?

the mother was a wfb from priscilla price and the male was standard grey... she told me the breeder but I am not at home so I can't get to my email.

Sorry it was the standard grey by priscilla price not the wfb.

The funniest part of this is that the people who buy the "100% Leu" are really not buying a 100% one.

Read this post it may clarify it

Yeah i have a little wfb and I honestly thought that he was dirty for awhile because his faced wasnt pure white! lol. I felt so stupid! But I thought he was cute anyway. I was just thinking of giving him a bath for awhile. Haha....the only difference with the white face is they dont have black bars under the ears but really i dont think its worth paying a ton more for that! Its insane. yep i got lucky too mine was on sale for half off since he was a year old and he really needed a good home.

yeah mine only cost 295 a piece which I don't think is too bad really. But I couldn't find any close to me and that was the closest place I found that I could drive to and wasn't a mill. So I just bought them anyways.

I have a WFB but she was a gift from a friend. She sure is pretty but so are my greys. I love my gliders for their personality.

I have seen the prices for Leu's, WFB, mosaics etc. drop alot just within the last year and probably will continue to do so because there are so many people breeding them now, not so rare anymore.

It will be interesting to see how much they will continue to drop with this recession we are in, I believe they will drop even more.
