The best thing to do for them when they get diarrhea is give them fluid to replace what they are losing. Dont want them to dehydrate. Pedialyte is best.

You really dont want to allow diarrhea to go on for very long. Gliders can dehydrate very quickly.

Nope - any flavor is fine. Consider getting the smaller bottles. That way you can have a couple on hand if you need it again. I made the mistake of buying a large bottle and ended up throwing most of it away.

Pedialyte does come in apple flavor - and we all know how much they love apple juice.

Have you done the "tent" test to check for dehydration?

Seriously, if a glider has diarrhea for more than 24 hours, a vet visit is needed to rule out parasites or bacterial infection.

sqeeze the skin on the back of their neck if the skin stays up they are deydrated. If it goes down right away most likely they are not dehdrated. If the diarrhea is bad then I would do the pedi till then.

Why are you giving your sugarglider chicken? Should be bugs, mealworms, fruits and veggies.

Chicken is a good source of protein. Mealworms are not as they are too fatty and should be given as treats.

Be diligent about giving them their medicine as the vet said. Giardia CAN be very serious is not treated - but it sounds like you caught it in time. Just do what the vet said and take it one day at a time with her. If you dont see any improvement in the next 3-4 days, call the vet again.

Watch her liquid intake. Give her as much pedialyte as she will drink.

Here is a link on how to give oral medications. You can give the Pedialyte the same way:

Im doing some research on Giardia so will post more in a few.

Important thing right now is to try and stay calm. She will pick up on your stress - and right now, she needs to stay calm, too.

You might want to give the cage a good cleaning as well. I don't know why I've never suggested it before, but if your glider(s) are infected with any kind of parasite, bacteria or anything contagious, I would change the newspaper out every day until it's gone too.

Is Kadi infected that you know of? It seems like, if anything, she'd be the one that maybe brought it in since she's newer? I'm not sure. If that's the case, either she's had it for a really long time and/or it took a long time to manifest OR it could have come in from an outside food source. Make sure you're (this is for everyone) washing your fresh foods REALLY well. This is probably where it came from...

Start their meds today.

I would actually suggest you clean their cage daily with a solution of water and 10% bleach until they are well. Take all toys out - only leaving the fleece items that can be washed daily. I know this is going to be a pain to do - but giardia can be difficult to get rid of.

Who did your gliders come from? How old are they? And how long have you had them?

Sorry for all the questions...
