Or should I consider myself a grandma to the suggies :) My daughter and I bought a pair of suggies recently. Of course we oooh'd and ahhh'd over them the first day. But now I think its time we use our bonding bag's. I am nervous that we'll get bite in the attempt of placing them in the bag. Is there any advice on the initial handling of the suggies? Not just to protect us, but them.

we left our newer babys alone for about 2 or 3 days tell they are more aware of where they are now and use to your secne tand you voice sense you are SO much bigger then the little ones.
i myself just took they bag they sleep in out while they are snoozing and sense they feel comfy in it already it wont stress them but thats what i still do just take the sleeping pouch out and play with them... i wouldnt play with them yet maybe but just hold the bag on your lap or under your shirt.. so they can become use to you and so they know your not going to hurt them but LOVE them..
what did you get 2 little girls? how old are they?
and
welcome...

Welcome!

I just acquired two new gliders, and this is what works for me: Take out the sleeping pouch, and leave the bonding pouches in for them to sleep in. They will probably both get into one, but that's OK. Once they get settled, you can carefully remove the bonding pouch. They will probably crab and wiggle around, but that's OK too. Close the bonding pouch, tuck it under your shirt, and gently pat and stroke them through the pouch, talking in soothing tones. Wear the pouch for as long as you feel comfortable, occasionally touching and talking to them. Don't expect overnight results, it could take a long time for them to start to come to you. Just be patient and always gentle in actions and voice.

That's a good idea. I'll use their larger sleeping bag instead of the bonding bag initially

We bought the suggies from a local family owned pet store (please don't criticize). The young lady wasn't familiar with their history, i.e same litter, age, etc. From what she did tell me, they have been together for approximately 5 months. Now they are home I determined they are both female (no male markings) and estimate they are about a year old. One is more fiesty than the other, but that is to be assumed since they are new to our family.

We have named them Leilani and Alohi Can't wait for them to bond :)

I also used to put the bonding bag in for them to sleep in and I'd carry them around during the day while they're asleep.

Oh and welcome!!!

Well i've heard that you should never pull on their tails bc if you do they will never forget it or something. I'm not sure if it is true but i won't ever try. lol. Just remember to be gentle and soothing and don't make sudden movements bc it may scare them. It also may take a while for them to bond so just be patient and try to understand that they are scared. If you need any help then just ask, everyone on the board is very nice and willing to help! Welcome!!

Unless your new gliders have reached about four months of age, there may not be a bald spot. The best way to tell is to look for testicles. They will look like a little pom pom or bunny tail. Don't mistake their cloaca for a genitalia. Both sexes have that, and it can be a little confusing, especially on joeys.

How old are your gliders?

Snusie's suggestion is exactly what I did. It's much easier to let them sleep in their bonding pouch in the beginning than trying to get them in it from a sleeping pouch.

Welcome!! And congratulations on your new gliders!!

Thanks all My four year old can't wait to see them when he wakes up. First thing he asks "can I see the suggies". Do you think I should use a piece of fruit to lure them into my hand? Or is that too aggressive?

It may work, but be very careful -- those little guys are fast!!! I would wait at least a few weeks, until they get to know you better -- JMHO.

Also - be especially careful around the four year old. Keep his fingers away. These are not really good pets to have around little ones because they can bite to the bone if they're scared, or even for no apparent reason at all. Small children tend to grab and make sudden movements. I'd hate to see either the glider or the child get injured.

The 4yo hasn't tried to touch either one, he watches my daughter and I :) Today Leilani came out of the cage and jumped on my daughter's shoulder, in her hair, pooped, then back in the cage Kiwi on the otherhand is a bit more timid. Give her time and I'm sure she will take to us. But yes, giving them the time to warm up is best.
