Hi everyone I am a new suggie mom and I am a college student. I have had my suggie for about 3 months now and plan to fly home for christmas. I already have a nice big cage at home waiting for her, but I am very nervous about taking her on the plane. I am having to sneak her on in her gliding pouch, but I am worried about her, and worried that she will crab and make noise.

Is there anything I can give her to ensure a stress free plane ride?
And is is even safe to think about giving her the tinest bit of something to put her to sleep for the ride?

I think you would be better off finding a glider sitter than sneaking her on a plane. What if they catch you? What if she wakes up and heaven forbid gets out of the pouch?
Also, giving her something without a vet RX would be dangerous.
You can post where you are located and perhaps someone would glider sit for you.

I would do that, but I am going home for 4 weeks and I wouldn't trust anyone with my little girl.

You are taking a huge chance if you ask me. Who knows what the consequences are if you get caught. Could they take her from you if you got caught? What if your flight is delayed and you sit on the runway in a hot airplane and your suggie is in a pouch on top of that. Deydration is a concern and if you do give her water, you have to be soooo careful she doesn't freak and get away from you.
Self medicating her isn't a choice as the littlest mistake could have fatal results since they weigh so little. A vet could tell you what your options are.
My Mom was trying to talk me into flying to visit and I told her that I couldn't take the suggies with me on the plane and she said who would know. I explained that they make this god awful noise that sounds kind of like a grinder and that it would be a sure giveaway. My Mom said just move your lips like it is you making the noise
I just chuckle when I think about that.
I am picky about someone else taking care of them also but perhaps an exotic vet in your area could recommend a pet sitter who wouldn't mind having them for a month? Good luck with your travel.

If you want to take your suggie with you that bad, and there is no one that you trust to take care of it, then why not drive instead of fly? I mean, I could not imagine going anywhere for even a single week without my babies, so I would be doing the driving thing, cause I would never risk any harm to the suggies. Would that be an option to consider?

I am going from St.Petersburg, FL allll the way to Colorado, so driving is not an option for me. Thank you all for your help. Looks like I will have to contact a vet and see what they have to say.

If you have any kind of pouch, you have no choice but to remove it and put it through the scanner. You have to remove jackets to go through as well.

To risky to even try. Why not just ask the airline what there policy is and if there is a chance you could take them. If u didn't buy your ticket look for a carrier that will let u take them. Just a thought there is a handfull of people here on this site from that area, just maybe I mean maybe you could find a sitter. Yes I know four weeks is a long time. Also u could try suncoast and see if they have any ideas.

Yes, it would definitely be too risky. If you got caught you will not only face legal ramifications but who knows what will happen to your glider. You may be able to talk to the airline. I know that some breeders ship their gliders on planes, but it seems to stressful to me. Have you thought about taking the train? You may be able to get them to let you keep them on you while you travel. It will take longer to get home, but your glider won't get stressed and you won't have to do the driving. One more thing, gliders are social animals and need to have at least one friend. Try to get your baby another glider to play with or she may develop mental issues. Good Luck

I do not know about gliders but people take their pets on planes all the time in these small carriers that fit under their seat. Not sure if it is different when it comes to gliders but if they had a small cage to hop around and not escape. Again I am no expert when it comes to gliders but just a thought

nitetimers- i'm sure they would be fine in one of those, the issue is that they are illegal to bring on every major airline. i think its a stupid law, since a lot of those airlines allow you to bring hampsters and ferrets and stuff...but then again i think a lot of laws are stupid. maybe some of the airlines will change their regulations though, they used to be allowed on delta or united i forget which one.

I'm pretty sure it was Delta but someone recently said they changed that. You may want to just call and check.
