Any trees that produce sap are not a good choice for any animals.

So what I'm trying to do is, I have mass cut ends from our x-mas tree stand. The rounds are just the perfect size to either put hole in the middle an and a knot. Then stack a couple of them up the knotted rope. The other way is to put 3 eye hooks in the rounds & use the wood rounds as a swing. So do I need to sand really good and/or sand plus varnish it like 12 layers? What should be the best.

The wood is still green and has a high moisture content. It takes up to a year to air dry wood unless you use a kiln or for small pieces maybe the oven would work at about 120 degrees, never tried it. the sap in undried wood will still bleed through the varnish. Also if they chewed not sure how good the varnish would be for them. If you decide to dry the wood don't pre cut the pieces, dry 1 to 2 foot pieces, they will crack at the ends which after drying you can just cut off.
