I don't know about the vets in your area, you can probably purchase an e-collar from them though. If you can't, I can lend you one of mine, just send it back when you're done! I have 3 of the plastic ones that I paid out the a** for, and would like them to get as much use as possible, Let me know if you'd like to borrow one!

I'm in Maryland, I got them from my old vet for $30 a piece, but he ripped us off. I think you can get them for about ten dollars.

Send me a pm or email if you need to use one of ours!

Yep - My vet:

Julia Becker, DVM
Tippecanoe Animal Hospital
3818 State Road 38 East
Lafayette, IN 479-05
(765) 447-5088
(She's already on the vet listing)

Per my request, she did laser surgery and left the poms on! That's important. Dizzy never looked at his site twice. It was the perfect neuter and wasn't expensive either.

Well, I can't vouch for the friendliness of the staff, but the Doc is great. Yes - She offers laser and be sure to ask to have POMS LEFT ON. Good Luck!

No matter who does the neuter or how its done - always expect the best but be prepared for the worst. Have an e-collar handy and come home with at least 3 days of pain meds. Metacam seems to the be pain med most use. INSIST on these two things!!!

Most neuters go beautifully, but you just never know. Chances are you wont need either - but if you should you will be very glad you have them.

Ok so i have a few questions on neutering too....... What are the benefits of getting the boys neutered with the Poms on and Poms off? What really does that do to the animal that makes it a benefit or opposite? Just dont understand that..... I mean, besides me trying to get my two males to like each other, which is not going well atm but thats in another thread, i have no other problems with the two males i have. They dont even mark things or anything like that. They were never really around females long at all. As soon as they reached the age they could be away from mom, i had them..... I read somewhere that if they are removed out of the environment of females, and done early, they will not develope a lot of the dominant male tendencies and marking stuff. My one year old glider doesnt even have his scent things on his head or chest yet....... As much info you can provide is awsome.

Neutering helps with odor and aggression. You probably haven't noticed much in the way of the odor yet because you haven't brought a female around yet. Really, poms on vs poms off is the healing process:

So there is no real benifit to the animal's well being for leaving or removing the Poms during surgery. Only difference would be the healing process and being able to tell males from females correct???

That is the only way I can tell Benji and Tosca apart!

Most vets leave the poms on as it is a much less invasive surgery.

Before I got Dizzy neutered I did a lot of research. I found a vet manual with all kinds of great information on glider neuters. Now - I can't find it again. Shoulda "favorited" it.

Anyhow: I did cut and paste this into my Notepad from the manual:

"Patients that have laser surgery experience dramatically less pain than with conventional surgery. CO2 lasers seal the nerve endings. Without the “raw” severed nerve, the patient feels little pain or discomfort. These patients also have very little bleeding or swelling. With laser surgery, there is also no tearing of the tissue. Without the usual trauma of conventional surgery there is minimal bruising and inflammation. Therefore, most patients have a speedier recovery allowing pets and their loved ones to be home together sooner”.

It also mentioned that those gliders whose scrotal sacs were left intact had much fewer incidences of complications because the procedure is less invasive and the gliders do not notice that something is "amiss". Wish I'd cut and pasted that too - dern it.
