I'm going to be getting a sugar glider :) and found someone who has only males for sale.
I know they tend to smell pretty bad compared to the females. Does anyone have males on this board
who prefers them over females or are females the way to go?? I rent my house and don't want
my landlord to think it smells bad. They allow pets, but I don't want to worry about it
smelling horrible when people visit

I actually have a couple of girls. I don't know if this is true or not, but I have heard that males can tend to be a bit more friendly than some females. Again, I'm not stating that as a fact, and I've never had males so I can't say from experience, but, maybe something to look into too? Good luck

My males have always been sweet since day one. My girls are equally sweet NOW, but they took some work. Yes, they can smell very much if they are not neutered. If you get them (I say "them" because you should not have just one because they are colony animals and need others) then you should consider getting them neutered. Not only does it help with the smell, it helps with aggression too.

Compared to my females, my one male (Dizzy) is the sweetest little glider on the planet. When my girls were younger, they were pretty bratty.

There is nothing sweeter than a neutered little boy glider! My Benji is a total little sweetheart!

I have both males and females and the males are much sweeter, they are more friendly and bond easier. They will not smell if you clean the cage including pouched at least once a week, and use a special cage cleaner or mild soap when washing down the cage. I use all natural wood chips for a liner and they work great. I also wash up my gliders once a month with a damp washcloth and baby shampoo.

Three neutered boys here. One is a total sweetie, he's friendly to everyone, even strangers. Two are not quite so outgoing, but they're just delightful. If you keep the cage reasonably clean, they don't smell, our dog smells worse when he's due for a bath.

I think the girls do have a little more attitude most of the time. My perfect little glider, Sunny is a neutered boy. I'm still bonding with my other two boys but they're SO MUCH nicer than the other two girls!

hmm my male is sweeter than my female. i wonder if its ok to have the male neutered an not the female? or vise verca? i know its better to get both done but if you dont have the money at the moment?

We don't spay female gliders. You will have to have the male neutered. Neutered males make GREAT pets.

My male acts a lot friendlier then my female. But, he also smells worse lol.

I would have to say that females can be very emotional. haha I wonder why! I've never owned a male but I've baby-sat them and the males usually are more outgoing. It all depends on the glider though. And yes, males smell more unless you get them neutered.

We have a total of 4 gliders in our home. I have two females and Autumn(my daughter) has a neutered male and a female out of the 4 Autumn's male is by far the sweetest. I still would rather have my girls though bc they do not need to be neutered and they are also very sweet but I will agree that sometimes they are bratty.

I think that males are a lot sweeter than girls. I have three unneutered boys (do plan on getting them neutered), I clean their cage every week and have not had too much of a problem with the smell. My other pets smell much worse dogs,rats, and yes even the turtle can smell worse. I think that if you keep them clean there shouldn't be much of a issue.

I currently have two females and one male. The male bonded with me in less than 3 weeks, my second female in less than 2 months.. now I have had my third female for a month and she's still a little fussy booger, but we're making progress.
