I got 2 female gliders last Sunday (yay!!!!!!!) but since we got them they have not been eating their bml diet, that's the one thier previous owner had them on. Coco is 2 and 1/2 years old and peanut is 16 months. I have tried to give them boiled chicken they only ate that once. I am very worried about them not getting enough protien. They are still eating all thier fruits and veggies. Anyone have any ideas or advice, it would be appreciated greatly, thank you
DeltaStrike Joey 14 Posts I have tried waiting 3 hours but they don't touch it, the other diet I was thinking of trying was the hpw, would you recomend this diet or which would you recomend, oh and to the previous MSG I tried putting honey but I wasn't sure if they could have the chicken and honey everyday DeltaStrike Joey 14 Posts I haven't tried eggs yet, I am gonna try that tomorrow, how big of a portion should I give them? I have 2 female gliders, also can they eat turkey? Or what other sources of protien do you give your gliders? sugerman Starting Member 6 Posts Try mealworms and crickets. They are a good source of protein also. My village loves them. I let them chase the crickets around the bathroom floor. Its fun to watch too. snusie Goofy Gorillatoes USA 2962 Posts Caution: Mealworms are very fatty, and should be given as a treat, not the main source of protein. Crickets are fun, I turn them loose in the tent and the boys have a blast. I give mine ground or roast turkey, chicken, steamed salmon, shrimp, occasionally lean ground beef, occasionally pork tenderloin (the really lean stuff). They get an omelet about once every five days. Check the Resources: Nutrition tab above for some recipes. Gliders can't process fat very well, as it's not something they'd get much of in the wild; so make sure the meat you give them is as lean as you can get, and if necessary rinse the fat off before you give it to your little girls.
DeltaStrike Joey 14 Posts Ok I'm going to try the babay food and egg before I get near the bugs, I don't like bugs but if necessary I will get some, from everything I read it says that you shouldn't give them salt can anyone tell why they can't have salt? I have just been wondering. Ty fr all the help and advice I really do apprecaite it. ss476hawk Joey 36 Posts We put the veggies in with the BML and stir it all up. You may want to try that. i know how you feel.. i give my gliders the hpw diet. THEY GULP IT UP over night.. but lastley they havnt been eating their fruits or veggies =/ just the hpw.. i guess them liking a diet too much isnt good either lol. if i just give them veggies one night. theyll eat it all! but.. when i give it to them all together they only eat the hpw an some fruits Some veggies. i was told they were suppose to eat EVERYTHING. but.. mine are still little so maybe they dont have much of an apatite yet? i hope you find a solution to your problem. i would try giving them the hpw or do what they said above,.. mix the bml with the fruits or the veggies. maybe theyll like it =) DeltaStrike Joey 14 Posts So guys i have tried everything you told me they like the chicken boiled in applesauce, also they seem to love veggie omlette as soon as I opened their cage one of them jumped on me to taste the food( guess it must have smelled good to her) I just wanted to thank everyone with all your advice and help, thanks to you guys I found some sort of protien that they will eat, but i just have a question, is it okay for me to rotate between egg and chicken and is it ok to add a sprinkle a little of thier vitamins on thier protien , I just want to make sure they have enough calcium as well as protien, and once again i just want to thank everyone on thier post. Now they are eating protein and veggies but they dont seem to like fruit, i have tried: apple, strawberry, peach, mango, orange, what type of fruit do you feed your gliders? snusie Goofy Gorillatoes USA 2962 Posts It's actually better to rotate their food, since they'll get tired of the same thing day after day. Mine get, by the day, chicken, ground turkey, shrimp, chicken, egg, ground turkey, ground beef, chicken, ground turkey ... etc. Tonight we're having pork tenderloin, haven't had that for about two months so they'll get some of it. Change it up, give them variety!
