The girl I was hoping to get the rescue from said that her mom liked the glider too much, so I'm not getting her, sadly.

But one thing she told me when she was asking me questions was very concerning. She said that when the glider is taken out of her cage, she spits up/foams at the mouth...?

What could that be? What does it look like when a sugar glider vomits? I've never seen one vomit, so I'm not sure if it looks like what she's describing.

She said that she's fine after she calms down.

She's a 5 or 6 year old single female glider, fed baby food, fruits and veggies, along with "other unhealthy stuff."

Please note that this is NOT my sugar glider, otherwise she would have been rushed to the vet.

I don't know either, but it doesn't sound good. The suggie needs a vet. I know I read your previous post so it is doubtful you could get them to take her to the vet, but maybe you could tell them that there is no way the suggie should be doing that and she really needs help like yesturday.

All I know is that it isn't normal so she really needs to go to a vet. Seems like we had a post that discussed them vomiting. Let me see if I can find it.

I've had them since 1997 and I have never seen this before so it sounds serious. She could be having light seizures onset by the excitement of being out. She could have developed a herniated stomach or similar result which causes her food to eject with activiy. Camels foam at the mouth when sexually excited but I havent ever seen this in gliders. Whatever the cause, it is not one bit normal so I would be worried.

whatevers wrong we need to find out. If i was infront of the owners they'd be getting an ear full!!! shes not on the right diet, probably needs a wellness check, and friend. im so upset u didnt get her.poor little dear!! i just can't stand to think of what will happen to her. if they really loved her they'd have given her too u. they don't know what they are doing. we will probably lose a life from these selfish people!!! it angers me so deeply!!

I asked my vet what it might be, and he said that they would have to probably do bloodwork and such to find the cause. Fair enough. He also mentioned that excessive drooling is often caused by stress.

I'm going to text her and tell her that she needs to be seen by a vet because her life could be at risk. I'm going to ask for more details as to what it looks like when she's doing that. She also mentioned that she gets twitchy and still - so I'm guessing it could possibly her having a seizure, as mentioned before? I haven't read the links yet.

I read those links, and then I asked EXACTLY what she did when she was foaming at the mouth.

Non responsive, stares off into space, drools/foams at the mouth, twitches/shakes... sounds like seizures to me....

I'm not sure, but I would guess that these could be seizures related to sudden excitement of being out of her cage? But I'm not sure, since she's not on the best diet. I'm guessing excitement though, because she said she only does it when she's taken out of her cage.

I told her that she NEEDS to be seen by a vet. No response yet....

Since she didn't respond, I asked her if she knew of a sugar glider vet she could take her to, and that if she doesn't, I could give her the name of mine. I made it clear that it's URGENT that she sees a vet, as it could very well be life or death for Sugar.

Well not to sure if gliders can get this but this sounds like rabies to me. I have seen it in animals and they look fine until they snap then you must put them down. I hope thats not what it has.

I don't think it's rabies. Everything she described sounds like a seizure.

She's a single female glider, 5 or 6 years old, that never gets any play time, and the girl told me that she only does it when she takes her out of her cage. Stares off into space or into a light, is unresponsive, twitches a bit, and drools/foams at the mouth. I think it could be seizures triggered from the excitement of getting out to play. :(

Not to mention the fact that she never sees another living thing except through her cage bars. :(

I highly doubt it's rabies too. I'm sure they theoretically could get it, but wouldn't they have to be bitten by another animal infected with it?

i thought so. because through all my research i have only found a bone disease that is like the worst thing to happen.(lack of calcium) but i agree u would probably have to get bitten by another animal that has it. but if that ever happened emergency vet visit is not a choice. for humans u have to get to a doctor amediatly for shots and crap.

If she still hasn't taken her to the vets I would call the local humane society. Hopefully they will intervene and take that poor girl away from people unwilling to care for her.

She hasn't even made an appointment yet because "she's so busy." I scheduled Atreyu's appointment when I was at Wal-Mart, and it took about two minutes.

I'm not sure what the humane society will do with her, so I'm a little hesitant in calling them in....

Ask them to foster her to you. They'll need a foster home where she'll be well taken care of; what better place than yours?

I didn't even think of that. Hm. What I'm worried about though, is how much the vet bill will cost. I have a vet fund, but it's not much, and I don't know if bloodwork, x-rays, or whatever she needs to have done will be in my budget. I do have some photography and drawings I want to sell specifically for a vet fund....
