I know you can't. But why can't you feed gliders fish?
Many baby foods/cereals seem to be okay.? What about plain white boiled rice?

well, you CAN feed them fish. But it is a little risky. Cuz gliders and fish-borne bacterias don't mix well. Some time ago, we were feeding cooked shrimp, but apparently some of the bacteria did not die and after it sat overnight some of our gliders got diarrhea from it. We has samples sent out for lab work by our vet. After the results came back, she said "have you been feeding them fish?" We said "yes." She said: "I can tell from the make-up of the report you have. Don't do that any more."

I think fish is ok. Just cook it well as you might for yourself. I feed salad shrimp often over here and havent had any issues for years. Salmon steak is a good. As with all meats, just make sure they are properly cooked and that they get eaten reasonably quick. My horde are carnivores and they go right for the meats.

Hmm..This is the first I've heard that it could be okay...& I didn't think about the bacterias sea creatures carry (Duh Me!) I have just heard/read that turkey & chicken are okay boiled but ham, fish & pork were No-no's. Lol..although I have recently talked to two people who are using pork (cooked well in a frying pan with nothing added) every now & again I have researched suggies for six years now, wanting one so bad & trying to talk myself out of it, and I now have decided that I'm about to find two little girls to adopt & I want them safe ^_^

I myself see no problems with pork, as it is one of the leanest meats there is after chicken. I've not tried fish yet, and I usually forget about the pork and others meats until they've been cooked with seasonings the girls can't eat. So they've really only ever tried chicken and eggs. I really need to get with the program. LoL.

(But yes, ham is a no-no because of the outrageous amounts of salt)

So far the only fish I given is shrimp. All four go for the shrimp first, once it's gone then they will eat the other stuff.

I would say no to regular white rice since it's full of carbs, the high amounts of carbs would cause your suggies to blow up like Macy's Day Parade balloons. They're not as active as a wild sugar glider, and it would take a lot of activity to burn off that amount of carbohydrates.

I'll give my three about a heaping teaspoon (total) of brown rice (much healthier than white) cooked with no salt. This is very seldom, maybe twice a month. Don't overdo it, it's way backward on the calcium:phosphorus ratio -- 0.125:1! Not as bad as corn, but not great.

As for fish, any good fish is okay as long as it's very well cooked. Of course you know to avoid canned or pouched fish prepared with salt, like tuna or salmon. Fresh salmon is a good protein, and my guys love it. They also love shrimp, talapia and sea bass. (Not so crazy about catfish, however; but I don't blame them, it's only good fried.) Quite often I'll squeeze a little lemon or lime juice over the fish, and they like that too.

I'll remember brown rice Seldom :) & that fish seems to be okay cooked well ^_^ Thank you. I know they need strict diets but I didn't see a problem with something like this (or things like corn) as long as it was sparingly. Wouldn't it be *kinda* like children and pop? Just watch when & how often. & I would NEVER give a suggie pop or chocolate or anything that could be "poison" to them. I just wanted to make sure these foods wouldn't actually do harm to them. ^_^
