Hi, I feed my gliders some protien every night on top of their BML. It is a family of 4 and they are 8 and 7 (2 parents, 2 kids). Recently the father started having seizures... seemingly when I took him out of the cage as I have never witnessed one inside the cage. So I got a new cage to rule out lead poisening, and increased the protien. They get meal worms, flukers freeze dried crickets, and something called "Insectivore-fare". All three of those are roted - so every third night they get meal worms.

So the real question is how many meal worms do you feed each glider and how often????

Thanks so much!!!

I feed mine 1 in morning and 1 at night. I have been told not to feed them mealworms more than twice a week it will make them too fat. mine is fat but I also feed him too much probably

Are you feeding them before you take them out of the cage? I have read somewhere here that they can get hypoglycemic and have a seizure, just like humans do. So maybe try giving a slice of apple when u get them out, or let them eat first. Hope this helps!

First of all have you taken your glider to the vet if he's having seizures? Also you can feed your gliders more then two mealworm a week they will not get fat from occasional treat. ~Unless your like me and spoil your siggies rotten!~

I feed ours the Zoo-Med Can-O-Worms mealworms. I feed 4 or 5 per glider per night along with papaya, dried figs, blackberries or a higher calcium fruit along with veggies. We have eight, four boys and four girls and all are slim, spend time in the wheel or running and jumping around the cage. The boys were recently neutered and the vet said that they all looked in good health. If we run out, I just add a little extra of another item on the dinner menu. We have had ours for two years and this is just our experience and I am sure that there are others that have had theirs longer that would be able to give you some better insight as to the best for their diet.

About once a month, I fill a bowl *full* of meal worms and let them eat to their hearts content. You've never heard so much lip smacking and chirping in your life!!!

Other than that, they get about 4-5 worms each per day. That is - IF my beetles are producing - which right now they are not. I have tons of beetles and hardly any worms and Im not certain why. And of course, my gliders will have nothing to do with the beetles...

Rita: Your gliders get that many!?
i'm scared to give Razzle too many cause I heard their High in fat. He gets to run around my glider proof room around 3-4 hours a night. But I still try too limit him to one mealie during the day and one at night. And then I give him three crickets every night (if i have them)

Is this wrong? can he have more mealies?

Hey Hannah2010 they can have more mealies you don't have to be so hesitant with them, if Razzle is housed in an appropriate size cage, has a wheel and gets 3-4 hours a night to run and scamper around you could be giving him 4-5 mealies if you want!

On a side note, why so many crickets?

Well his cage isn't huge, I'm getting an exel soon though. But I do like to let him out as much as possible. And of course he has a wheel, which he is insepperable from.

I read the nutritional content for crickets, meal worms, super worms, wax worms, june bugs, and catapillers one time in Suncoast's monthly newsletter. Crickets are much lower in fat, and much higer in protein than meal worms. Plus, i can put them in his kitchen and he seems to use his hunting insticks to catch the jumping insects.

I buy them young and feed them my self so I know their gut loaded and healthy for him. plus I have to buy them for my lizards any way, and I was told to limit the lizards meal worm intake a loooooonnnngggg time ago and I always have.

I believe othe members on here feed crickets too, just not as often. He gets three a night evert other or every third night when I have them. Some times we go weeks with out them though, due to the fact that my geckos store extra fat in their tails.

Regarding the siezure question... yes, he goes every year for a check up. Due to the seizures, he has been 3 times. They have done a large blood panel, glucose level, he has been inestetized, etc. So he has had the works and they did not find anything.
