Hello, everyone! I've been enjoying all the stories and advice from all the experts on here! I have another question! Surprise, right?

So I looked through the gliderpedia for information about the diet that I feed, suggested by the breeder. I'm wondering your opinions on it. Molly seems to enjoy it and is doing well, but since I haven't seen anything, I want to know what you guys think. Here's what she eats:

Day 1: Boiled Chicken and Fresh Fruit
Day 2: Mixed Fresh Veggies and Fresh Fruit, with calcium supplement sprinkled on fruit
Day 3: Scrambled Egg and Fresh Fruit
Day 4: Same as day 2.
Also, she gets on average either 3-4 mealworms or 1 cricket and 2 mealworms daily.

The breeder gave me dry food that he said to leave out at all times for her to eat whenever she wants. I have read that you guys have a bad opinion of pellet food, but is it bad if it's a small portion of their diet?

Thanks for your help!!

Your diet's not horrible, though you really should toss the pellets. They're not providing her the correct balance of nutrients. Gliders are so tiny that every bite is important.

She should get fresh fruit and vegetables every day, along with a protein. The amounts, for a grown glider, are one tablespoon each of the fruit and veg, and two tablespoons of protein. Chicken is good, and the egg; add some ground turkey and shrimp or salmon to your rotation. Check out some of the diets like LGRS Suggie Soup, HPW, BML. Those mixes are the protein source, and you wouldn't offer chicken etc. in addition to the mix if you switched -- though you could substitute just for variety. Kazko's Diet offers a meat source along with a blend.

Keep an eye on the calcium to phosphorus ratios of the diet, too. Here's an article to explain, and give you some guidance: http://files.meetup.com/768852/Ratios.pdf If you check the Resources: Nutrition tab above, there are lots of recipes for fruit and veggie relishes that already have the nutritional balance figured out for you.

A lot of people have come on here wanting to leave pellets in the cage all day, because they are concerned that their suggies may wake up hungry and want to eat during the day it sounds like that is what they were doing where you got your baby from. No need to worry about that. Mine very rarely get up during the day. Therefore not needing anything to eat. Searching for and deciding on a good diet for your suggie can be very tedious. I still wonder whether their would be a better choice for my babies. Too bad we can't exactly replicate what the eat in the wild. Good luck to you and your baby.

Hi... i'm new to gliders and Im picking up my soon to be babies tomorrow... I'm a little confused with their diet since the ingedients are not available in our area and I'm paranoid about buying things online... as i've researched through this forum, I've seen that Kazko's diet would be the easiest for me to make as the ingredients are widely available here in our area... is this alright? should I still put those rep cal vitamin? we don't have those in our area..

thanks a lot for your help..

well kazko's diet is more for experience glider owners i think. getting the ratios right can be difficult. dont be too paranoid about buying stuff online remember your doing it for your gliders. if you go with the lgrs diet the fly thing (not going to even try spelling it all out at 3am lol) is the only thing you have to buy online. you buy it once and that will last you over a year. dont mess around with the rep cal vitamins unless you know what your doing giving them to much can hurt them. maybe if you tell us what you are having problems finding someone here can help you find other things to replace something you cant find for a recipe.

i'm actually planning on feeding my gliders with the BML however I can't find the following items:

a. wheat germ
b.Rep-Cal HERPTIVITE vitamin suppliment
c.Rep-Cal Calcium Suppliment non-phosphorus with Vit. D3
d.Stage 1 or 2 Heinz, Gerber or Beechnut Chicken baby food
e.dry baby cereal (Heinz or Gerber (Mixed or Oatmeal)

Those are all the ingredients that we don't have in our area.... it would be good if you can suggest substitute for the above ingredients.

you can get the chicken baby food at wal-mart, winn-dixie, piggly wiggly, publix, any grocery store should have it. all the pet stores in my area have the rep-cal suppliments. they are near the reptile and turtle food. petsmart, superpetz, and petsupply plus. the locally owned pet store i go to has it too. the baby cereal is in any grocery store in the baby aisle. trigun, where are you from?
