I decided to start my own colony and I have about 50 bettles but no reproducing going on....I dont want them as pets lol I am trying to keep the cycle going so I dont have to waste money on mealworms. Does anyone know how tofix this I have had these bettles well over a month. I feed them carrots, cucumber, and sometimes butternut squash.

I've got the same problem. Maybe it just takes longer than I realized.

It takes about 4 months to get full size mealworms. They reproduce faster if you keep them in a warm place.

They have to be kept in an incubator to reproduce faster. They take about two months when kept warm. they must have a supply of water, potato, cucumber, etc. and bran or whole wheat flour. I don't really know how to gut load them.

The Darkling Beetle [aka the mealworm] will lay eggs in the bedding that shouldn't be removed then hatch into a larval state which starts out small but eventually increases to a large larva that is finally ready for pupation to later hatch and become a Darkling beetle.

If you slice up a piece of apple or potato and place it in the bedding, after about 15-20 minutes flip over the apple and you should see a bunch of little tiny worms.

If you leave the beetles in with the adult worms, most of the eggs will be eaten.
