There is nothing PROVEN yet that shows grapes have an adverse effect on gliders. So it really is a personal choice. If you don't want to "risk" it, don't. But if you feel there's no evidence against them, go for it. Divins Super Glider 326 Posts Yeah, the link talks about Someones opinion, lots of people talking about grapes poisoning their dogs (which aren't in the same family as the Sugar glider) and Skunks (which aren't in the same family as the Sugar glider) throwing around nothing but accusations and suspicions with no concrete evidence while people that disagree with them show them actual information that says there is no proven connection. All of the articles that mention the grape effect are careful in their wording. None of them say grapes are the cause of the effect, only suggesting a possibility. Such wording may be because there is a lack of empirical evidence. I could definitely go with pesticides on the grapes killing the little guys but isn't that why we rinse off our fruit? Maybe that is it, maybe they had to much zinc in their water and rinsing it off was what did it. Again, mine don't really like grapes so I don't really have to be concerned about it. I'm a stickler for facts. I just don't take someones word for it. hypnotist321 Fuzzy Wuzzy 1742 Posts
quote:
Oxalates. Whether you are talking about grapes or anything else, it's kind of careless to say you are going to feed them something just because you did and they seem fine. My glider that died was fine for 3 years, including the night before he died. Just because they appear fine does not mean they are and again, I'm not just talking about grapes. You could eat Doritos and Twinkies every day and be fine for quite some time. My point is you should not feed it because they appear fine after. You should feed it because you read the information offered and made an informed decision.

Yes! That's the word - Thanks Kyro :-) waterburyk9 Super Glider 297 Posts Yes I do not eat sushi, or any fish for that matter. I had a pet dog that was very allergic to soy, it was horrible to see and took us a while to realize it was her food. I felt like such a bad parent! the 3rd vet told us that we should feed the least amount of grains as possible- dogs are meat eaters and soy was not on their list of normal foods. I also had a very great friend that was diagnosed with breast cancer, on one of her treatment visits that I went with her, her Doctor very adamantly told her to get rid of everything soy in her house, and never get anymore. That was enough for me to not eat it ever again. So while some people will tell you I am crazy, soy is a wonderful source of all things good- I will not change my mind, I will not eat it or purchase it. It is my personal decision, I try to do the best for my animals and husband, I even watch the foods and treats that I donate to the animal shelter and food bank. Really, I think that Kylah is trying to make the point that each person should read the information provided for any and all sources and make their own decision- not because any rescuer told you this or that or because you read it here, but because you took the time to do some research, weigh the pros and cons, and make up YOUR OWN mind about what you are or are not going to do. Simple as that really. Some will decide to feed grapes, some will not. I don't think there is any reason to make anyone feel badly either way. csg BANNED ACCOUNT 61 Posts
quote:

quote:
Peanut butter and jelly was reported to cause cancer if eaten enough.
