. I am so worried about my two year old Lilly.......very unusual--- she has been acting completely aggressive for a week--- she looks very bloated in the stomach region which happened suddenly, and she is awake with a constant appetite- eating nonstop, so I have had to remove the food which keeps the other female from being able to eat as usual. It is like she is pregnant... No vomit, no diarrhea, no lethargy?? I can't find a local vet that is willing to examine my Lilly. Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Where are you located, we could help find a vet.

I will try to take pics of them today, they actually look pretty similar-- the only way I can tell them apart is by their tails.

Just in case someone else might have the same problem this could be due to an intestinal blockage.

Intestinal Blockage: Don't hesitate make sure you do as instructed and get to a vet ASAP.

Symptoms:

Abdominal fullness, bloating, or swelling

Vomiting

Diarrhea (if blockage is not complete)

Breath odor

Absence of passage of stool (when blockage is complete)


The partial or complete mechanical blockage of the small or large intestine. The bowel is physically blocked. This most often occurs in sugar gliders when a foreign body is present in the intestines (such as wood, seeds, or millet), blocking the bowel. 
Causes:

A foreign body, such as seed husks, seeds, millet, or wood, physically blocks the intestines, allowing fecal matter to build up in the intestines
Prevention:

Never give gliders inexpensive dry cat food

Moisten dry foods for easier digestion

Steer clear of seeds, nuts and other dry foods (however I know many of us do feed pecans but I read that Peanuts also carry a contaminate so peanuts are just not worth the risk this of course would include peanut butter.

I would appreciate knowing what your vet said please so I can also learn.

Again we should all seek veterinary care immediately! which your doing but don't wait or think it will get better because they can die. Gliders don't show pain easily as it is a danger to show weakness to predictors or their community. So when you see a sudden bloating or aggression, pain, lethargy its probably pretty bad.

I Found this on another wonderful site of a person that had the same problem you did with the eating. I hope it helps. I also put the HTML of the website to see that their vet didn't diagnose blockage yet unknown causes. The Suggie did recover.

Second post to emergency forum in one week... this is insane. I heard hissing mixed with a weird noise coming from the gliders cage just a few minutes ago. I thought one of the joeys was looking for Kiwi, so I went over to look and I was shocked to see it's Kiwi making the noise (Kiwi is my least vocal glider) and she's just sitting on a vine hissing.

I took her out and noticed her belly is extremely large and firm. She is a huge eater and we commented on her eating more than usual tonight (we added in a few fruits and veggies that are part of the BML diet, that they don't always get on a regular basis) - could she have eaten too much? Is she bloating? She continues to hiss every few minutes, but then she runs on her wheel or comes out to play.

I called one of two emergency vets in town and the vet on call is not familiar with sugar gliders at all. I'm waiting for a call back from the second e-vet. Until then, any advice or suggestions?

it might also be some kind or parasite especially if it has been a while since you took her to a vet. Either way I would not suggest waiting and take her to the vet petluv suggested.

Please do not reference the ISGA it is another PPP organization. They are not a credible source of veterinarian information because they purposefully give out information that misleads causing people to believe gliders are easy to care for and they often want people to believe gliders do not require veterinarian care.

I'm sorry vicious but I do not agree with you. Although I don't think everything they write is the gospel, I did agree with them on this one because it supported my experiences with other species as well as other things I have read about sugar gliders and also from my contacts of breeders. A good rule of thumb is not to discount the baby in the bathwater but to glean all advice to the weight of your own convenience,intelligence and resources.
Thanks for your input however, I will be more cautious of ISGA and consider your concerns.

There is already so much misinformation floating around the internet, I understand the common concern that Vicious is bringing up. Also, it's really tricky when you keep bringing up specific veterinary advice, listing conditions and symptoms. Without listing your credentials, you're treading on dangerous territory Snow, that could be taken out of context and do more harm than good.

And to the OP, that definitely sounds like a call the vet problem to me :)

There's been a sudden drastic change in behavior and bloating, both for a week now and the glider hasn't been to a vet?....I'd be running to the vet if I were you....

My boy started hissing around a week or so ago. At first I thought it was an intestinal blockage, but turns out it was a UTI.
