We just got a new boy 1 and half week ago and we left him alone 1 night was last thursday and when we came back we noticed that he was very weak and had completely liquid poop.

so we took him to the vet on Sunday and he gave us medicines and electrolite drink. nonetheless, we noticed he peed and pooped himself and his tummy sometime completely wet. we have been giving him the medicine since Sunday, he seemed to be more lively and active than last friday and saturday but still his diarrhea still going on and on and he cant stop pooping and peeing himself.

i thought he also might be depressed beause he often shout at us and he is basically not bonding with us at all since we only got him 1 and a half week now.

just wondering if anyone's glider ever pee or poo themselves, is it depression sign? what should we do? the vet suggested us not to give him any fresh fruit but would love to give him a try if any fruit or veggie would help him faster.

What's the actual diagnosis the vet came up with (since he gave you meds)

canned pumpkin helps with diarrhea. But i would call the vet back and let them know how he's doing he shouldn't be pottying on himself. Do you plan on getting a cage mate so he's not lonely? Did they do a fecal test? And what diet are you feeding that might have some affect?

Canned pumpkin, "not pumpkin pie" helps with constipation.

Gliders do sometimes get stress diarrhea. Stress diarrhea will clear up within 12 hours. If it persists, then you need to see a vet.

As to the advice you were given from the breeder- it certainly is not going to kill your glider, but it won't help her either.

Please do not give wheat bread. Also, please do not leave fresh fruit in her sleeping pouch.

For a simple bout of diarrhea, you can give a small amount of canned pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie spiced kind, but plain canned pumpkin). It is great for their tummies and will help with either diarrhea or constipation. I give it to my gliders once every 4-6 weeks. It is easy and they like it.

If she stressed so much on the car ride home to give her stress diarrhea, then it is best that you leave her alone for several days in order to let her settle in. So, you can put plain white paper towels in her drop pan of her cage. You will be able to see on the paper towel if she is continuing to have diarrhea. If it persists into tomorrow evening, you need to get her to a vet right away.

Either way, she needs a full vet visit soon - with fecal testS and urinalysis.

Gatorade will not harm her if it happens to be what you have on hand. However, the very best thing you can give a glider to drink (at all times) is plain water. Just keep an eye on her to make sure she is drinking well. If it is just a temporary stress diarrhea, then she should not suffer any long term effects at all.

he is 2 and a half months old .... The vet said he was very dehydrated and he must be stressed that was why he peed himself. i am not sure what are the meds for. i called the vet earlier this evening, he said he couldnt tell when he would get better, depends on how he recovers himself. But earlier i noticed his poop is not so liquid anymore.

since the vet said no fresh fruits for a while, we have been giving him a baby food which called celelac (not sure if u know) since he didnt like heinz or any other baby food much and he must eat so we just give him this same food.

just weird and wondering why he pees himself i guessed he pooped himself cuy he has diarrhea. we are thinking to get another boy on Friday, cuy maybe it would decrease our suggie stress. u think its a good idea?

A friend is always a good thing :) And you might want to look up top at under the nutrition tab and put him on a better diet. There are alot to choose from just pick one that works best for you.

Do a tent test on your glider to see if he's dehydrated. Gently pinch the skin on the back of his neck, if it stays up he is dehydrated if it goes back down he's hydrated.

Do you know if the vet checked fecal matter for parasites?

I had a solo glider who was a little messy in the potty department. Once i got a friend for her it stopped. I dont know if tjhis is the same case with you though.

A better diet is a good idea too.

Another suggestiong, if you havent already, is a tiny cap of fluids. I used a baby bottle cap filled with liquids. My first male got sick fast after recieving him. he wouldnt "groom" himself, which sounds about what your talking about. His belly was constantly in a dirty moist type state. just be cautious about trying to wash it or clean him. better to leave him a little dirty then give him a chill by trying to clean him with a damp cloth.( Check your water bottle for him and make sure hes drinking, mine had a very weak "lick" on the bottle from being sick so the extra cup helped him get more liquids faster.

As for the no fresh fruit or Veggies, i'm not sure what diet he was being fed when your recieved him or if you changed it since you got him, but radical changes in diet can also cause diarrhea. but it's better to have them eating with diarrhea than not eating at all and getting sicker. If its from diet diarrhea it will calm.

One of the biggest concerns is with the baby food though. someone else would have to confirm, but there was a reason why baby food was not a viable "main food"(staple) food source and i think it was low on calcium or protein. *Again someone else would have to confirm.*

If you got the new glider from pocket pets (only if dont search them out or their products), until you change their diet to one you like better, it would be a good idea to add their "Glida-mins" to whatever food you were giving them. instead of putting it on the fresh apple slice every other day, add it to the food every other day. thats if you got it from pocket pets. it will at least help out with any supplements that the current food isnt giving him.

when your lil one's tummy got moist on it, was it his poo or pee? My lil boy James, peed and pooped himself, i tried to clean because i wanted to see if he would continue peeing himself or not but as u suggested i'll leave him cuz i'd cause him stress more i guess.

today we will try canned pumpkin as many people suggested but not sure if its a good idea as the vet said no fresh fruits and veggies.

the vet actually didnt check or test anything. He just looked, listened to his heart but i think he did a tent test because he was pulling my boy's back skin but i actually didnt know about the tent test ustil i became a member on this site which was yesterday

how was ur lil one sick? was he or she the same as my James? diarrhea and he craps alot and still seems aggressive. how did ur new one bond with ur girl? how did u process the new introduction?

I wouldn't worry about bonding right now till your glider is healthier. If your vet didn't check his feces for parasites then he is not the vet for you. He needs a fecal check, please seek out another more knowledgeable vet quickly. Once your glider is properly treated and the diarrhea gone I bet he'll feel better and bond more easily. I posted in another thread that I lost our first glider who had diarrhea and tummy was wet too, by the time we knew better and got good advice to go to the vet ( the breeder kept saying it was diet related) it was too late to treat the parasite and she died. Don't waist time, get good vet care for your baby please.
