Can sugar gliders have rice? How about bread or pasta? The reason I'm asking is because I gave Zippy a pouch warmer full of rice and he got into it and started eating the rice. Should I worry about him getting sick? Thanks.

How much did he eat? I really don't know if they can have rice. They are supposed to get complex carbohydrates like grains and such. That's where they get most of their energy. I don't know about rice. If he ate a few pieces than I wouldn't worry about it. The only harm I can see is if he gorged on it. Maybe someone will know for sure. I will try and look it up and get back to you.

Just give him plenty of water until we find out...

I give my gliders rice, plain pasta and bread as treats every once in a while. They love all of them! Was it cooked rice? As long as he didn't eat too much he should be fine.

The only thing is, he ate uncooked rice. That means it will expand in his stomache. They have outlawed throwing rice in TN for that reason. Birds were litraly exploding because the rice would expand in their stomaches and have no where to go...

I would just keep a very good eye on your glider. if its passing urine and poop and seems happy iwould say all is ok. If in any doubt at all about it's health contact your vet. I would imagine it just may feel abit full.

Yea, the rice will expand if it was not cooked, that's why I asked if it was cooked or not. They have outlawed it here also, now we use bird seed at weddings.

The rice wasn't cooked. He seems to be fine and happy. As soon as I saw him eating it I gave him some peas to munch on instead. Then I took the pouch warmer out. Thanks for responding. I guess I probably shouldn't worry too much about it.

Is/was the pouch warmer meant to be for a sugar glider pouch? If so, you may want to tell your story to whomever you bought it from, just in case it happens again and can cause real damage. Just a thought.

Did you get this from a lady on ebay? If so, dont bother...I've tried telling her of the dangers of some of her "glider" products and she doesnt seem to care. Says her items are safe and the owner must be using them wrong. She seems very snotty and in it for the money.

I got it from the guy who built my cage. He lives about three hours away. I don't think we have his number anymore. Anyway, I don't think I should use that pouch warmer anymore.

Ok...I must live under a rock or something Pouch Warmer? Could someone tell me what this is and such? Just wondering...
I haven't been on Ebay to look for Glider things in a while. When I first got Chelsey, I did the Ebay thing and was pretty disappointed with everything I bought for my girl. I bought from more than one person too. So yep...Ya gotta be careful who and what you buy. I keep a book here by the computer when I see a *positive* feedback on something or someone I write it down.
Thanks for the info. in advance.

A pouch warmer is a cloth bag full of rice or something that you heat up and put in a glider's pouch to make it warmer in there...

lol I have one( a pouch warmer) but it's called a bed buddy, you pop it in the microwave for two mins and wrap it on your neck or back! I love mine! Can't say I'd give my gliders one! But I think he will pass the rice ok as long as it wasn't too much! I'm pretty sure they out lawed tossing rice everywhere because of the birds! I know for sure Texas did too! my gliders like 7 grain bread they would touch white bread!
Look what I found on Ebay
