http://www.sugar-glider.co.uk has some GREAT info for beginners
I'd definately scan ebay for a cheap cage, definately the larger the better, 4ft high by 2ft wide and deep really is the MINIMUM for a pair of gliders.
Also, when deciding on what to get, tame adults can bond quicker and just as strongly to you as a pair of joeys can. It took 2 days for my 2yr old male to bond with me, 8 months after buying my 2 girls (10wk old when I bought them)I still can't handle them. Doubt I ever will be able to, they're very independant! So don't dismiss the oldies, and considering gliders live for 10-15 years, it's unlikely that any 'adult' suggie you may come across will actually be OLD ...
Diet is the hardest thing to get right I think as every website will almost tell you a different thing. Personally I won't use honey, I don't think there is need for it. A lot of US diets do and that's fine if it works for you. Some people find their gliders tend to chub up quickly, some gliders wont put weight on. Just depends obviously. The one thing I would recommend if you were to use a 'soft' diet that did contain a fair bit of sugar is to find some sort of crunchy food to go alongside the diet or make sure they have planty of tree branches in their cage as they often like to strip the bark and they do need some way of cleaning their teeth.
Monkey biscuits are a good ADDITION to their diet (personally I use 5 or 6 pieces of high quality cat kibble every few days) but there are big debates on this between the US and the UK. I am in the UK and the reason I do it is because cat biscuits (kibble) are of much higher quality in the UK than you guys get.
But have a look around. There's a site called Suz Sugar Gliders that has lots of info and shows you how to make some nice cage sets (very addictive by the way!)
Good luck!x
