Hubby & I talked about my discussions on here and decided to just build the cage we wanted. We bought the supplies from Home Depot (a 1.5 hr drive for us to store but the only local store that sold the supplies). It took 8 hours and 40 min-of actual build time- with at least one if not both of us working on it, but I think it looks great! Still need to make a tray somehow & add wheels but hey :D
It's 2 ft wide, 2 feet deep, and 5 feet tall (4.9 feet of actual living room). Cost us a lil under $100-not including the toys I've been making ;)
In the photo you can compare the cage we bought originally (Living space is 14 inches wide, 11 inches deep, 15 inches high)

Looks like your gliders are going to be in heaven in their new cage. What material did you use for the cage?

Was he actually living in the other cage? It is designed as a travel cage and is not intended for him to live in! Not even temporarily -- unless something is wrong with him and you are trying to keep him from running and jumping around.

This is not intended to scold you or anything like that, I just don't want new owners to see this thread and think that it is OK to keep their gliders in the travel cage as their living quarters. Minimum size should be 32"x20"x36".

Valston-we used a high grade PVC covered 19 gage hardware (hardwire?) mesh. We bought 18 gage wire to connect it (very VERY time consumming to wrap, but efficient) and used 12 gage wire to help with framing (around doors). We have 3" of room at the bottom for a tray (when I figure out how to do that part). 6 shelves (3 on each side 13" apart so 6.5" apart when closed)that are 8" with a .5" lip-leaves some room lol. I can't remember the door measurements though sorry!

G-n-R Mommy: Yes ma'am he was living in that-I didn't know any better until after I bought him! We did what I thought was good research before we bought him, but the site was not good at all (PPP). The person we bought from (a PPP breeder) told us that we should only buy 1 to help with bonding (even though we wanted two), and that the small one you see in the pic was fine...he also said buy a heat rock, pelleted feed, ALL the bad stuff!! Now I know better.
When I found out that I had the wrong info (even before I found this site) I called him & asked if we could trade the cage in for a bigger one and get mine a friend. Now that I found this site I know better about that too! Although I'm still trying to figure out how to get MacGyver a friend (rescue another from the PPP or not) we decided we weren't given the man money for another cage esp when the small one is good for travel and we would need one until the 30 day quaratine is over.

CnC I am so glad that you were able to build him this bigger cage! He isn't going to know what to do with himself with all of that space!

I thought I bought one the other day, but turned out I didn't confirm...it was a Wodent; now that I learned about the stealth I'm trying to find a good price for one. I think I may have found it tonight so I have to show hubby later. So far we've put about $150/$175-we've had him for a week-into Mac after paying $150 for him so I'm afraid to push hubby to get the more expensive stealth--esp since we are getting Mac a buddy ASAP lol. Hopefully he will go for it though, it's the Stealth 12" with 1 nail trim track for $58.40 incl ship. ;)

If your gliders begin to experience lethargy and seizures, take them out of the cage. PVC wire has been known to have toxic effects on gliders.

Hubby corrected me, it is in fact not PVC but vinyl coated. :P I don't think that this would harm him.

PVC Stands for Poly-Vinyl-Chloride. So this means the plastic is made of chains of vinyl chloride.
