I am starting a new thread because the last one got a bit crazy but I wanted to clear a few things up.

As far as rescues in Colorado there are two that I know of; myself and a woman in Littleton. I can not remember her info off hand but she helped me early on when I was considering starting my own rescue. If I remember correctly she was in the final stages of getting her USDA and 501c3. I have not obtained these licenses yet because this is a VERY new endeavor and I am still in the beginning stages of getting everything together. I have an established relationship and care plan with two different exotic vets several people that are willing to foster for me and a vet fund and I am working on the paperwork for the USDA PACFA and 501c3.

A little about me;
I have owned gliders for 10 years and have been "rescuing" for around 7. I use quotations there because I did not work with any rescue or have any licenses I simply took in sugar gliders in need when I came across them and could help. Most of which I have been able to get healthy and to new homes, sadly not all
I am not a collector and am not looking for free sugar gliders. I have two gliders of my own and two that I took in several months ago that after several months of nursing care and around $1000 in vet bills are finally healthy and ready to go to a new home.

I did tried to contact Jamie with Suggie Savers through her rescue email several times and have gotten no response which is one of the reasons I decided to become more proactive with my rescuing. If there is anyone who would like to help me in this adventure I would greatly appreciate all the help and support I can get as I know this is a HUGH undertaking. And if there is a rescue that I have overlooked that I could join efforts with I would LOVE that.

Do I know everything there is to know about sugar gliders? NO!
Do I think I will ever be done learning about these wonderful critters? Not in my life time!
Am I beyond asking others for help and advice when I come across something new or want to be sure I am doing absolutely everything I can? Absolutely NOT!
So if I have or do ask questions that you feel I should know the answer to, I would greatly appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me instead of judging me or looking down on me. I am NOT perfect but at least I am doing everything I can to help and learn. No one has all the answers and if someone is unwilling to ask a question they will remain ignorant and that is no place I want to be.

I hope this has cleared things up a bit. If I have forgotten a question please remind me and I will do my bet to answer it.

Jamie was the only one here with a 501c3...and isn't she in Littleton or extremely close? In the other thread you said there were two others here. Did you mean yourself? I don't believe Jamie is using that email. I also don't believe she is the one even maintaining the website anymore either.

I would highly recommend contacting Ed (Luckyglider on here or Val (Something_To_Believe_In)

GlidingHome, we operate a 501(c)3 and USDA licensed sugar glider rescue in Van Alstyne TX. It is called Lucky Glider Rescue & Sanctuary or LGRS for short. We would welcome a visit from you if you want to volunteer for a few days so we can share our own best practices, procedures, paperwork, etc. Please let us know if you are interested. Call Gail on 903-482-6026 to chat about this.

Are you gonna answer?

I assume you are the same person since you said you are starting a new thread "because the last one got a bit crazy but I wanted to clear a few things up."

Why 2 different accounts?

And this is why it is so hard for me to trust some/most people. I reported your Facebook page for misrepresentation, claiming to be non-profit .

There was a similar post a year or 2 ago about a Sugar Glider Rescue in Colorado, I think it ended the same way .

What a bummer!! If you are serious about running a legitimate non-profit in Colorado, feel free to email me,PM me or post here(Ed and Val also volunteered? ).
I volunteer for a few different non-profit wildlife rescues and know a few people in other animal related rescue organizations (exotic and domestic). I can't tell you how to do it ,but I can hook you up with people in Colorado who are already doing it and going to Community Shares meetings http://www.cshares.org/ .

I'm not sure they are the same person. I think I'm the one that caused that confusion in the other thread, unfortunately.

I'm guessing it's the same person or a few people working together.

I am sorry it has taken me a few days to be able to post I will answer your questions I just don't always have a chance to get one here daily. To answer your questions:
Kyro~ do you know how to contact Jamie then? I would love to talk with her and get her input. And the two rescues I was referring to were Suggie Savers and the lady in Littleton that I chatted with last year.

SJones~ yes my facebook page says we are not for profit because when making a facebook page you have to choose a category i.e. business, community page, non-profit. Since we are working on all the needed licenses and such to get a 501c3, all proceeds will go back into the rescue and myself and my fosters are all volunteering our time I did list it as a non-profit despite not having the 501c3 yet.

Catman~ No I am not Edward nor do I know him or have any connection to him or what he was/is doing. And no I do not breed them and have no intention of doing so. Both my males are neutered and any males that I adopt out will also be neutered. And I would LOVE to talk with you and get any input/help you can offer. I truly an trying to do the best for the gliders and I am serious about doing this the right way.

LuckyGlider~ I would LOVE to spend time at your rescue and learn the ropes unfortunately I am in Colorado. I do make at least one trip a year to TX to visit family though so I will be sure to make arrangements with you when I plan my next trip. In the mean time would yo be willing to work with me via email? I would love any advice you would be willing to offer.

I am sorry there has been so much confusion, and that you all are a bit leary of people trying to start rescues because of bad experiences in the past but as I said, I admit that I do not know everything and am more then willing to take advice from others that are more experienced in this area. I do want to do this right and I do want to help not hurt the sugar gliders or the community.

GlidingHome would you be willing to post some pictures of the area you will be keeping the gliders and other things. maybe even do some video to introduce your rescue to the glider community. i think it would help people trust you more if they feel like they know you and your rescue better. Ed also keeps us updated about gliders coming and going from his rescue and such. you could also even do an open house type thing or event later on.
i hope everything works out well and we will have another good rescue to put on the list.

Shadow I wouldn't have a problem posting pics and keeping everyone informed about little ones coming and going. I will say though I do not have just one place that the gliders will be kept as I do not have a large amount of space and I am just getting started. I have enlisted the help of a few people that will be foster homes for me as I need them so the gliders will be in an approved home environment. I feel this will be less stressful on them and keep people from getting burned out as they will only have a few to care for. It will also make it easier to isolate them.

You aren't affiliated with Loveable Pockets Pets though, right? (I'm sure you know they're in Westminster as well)

Also, I just skimmed and didn't see it mentioned, but what about USDA licensing? My understanding is that if you have sugar gliders for anything other than pets here, you have to be licensed? You may have mentioned in the other thread if you were in that process or not. I honestly haven't looked back to see. If so, do you have a USDA inspector yet?

I know rescue is quite a process...especially the formal stuff to do it the "right way". I don't know how long you've been actively applying for certification so I was just curious.

Correct, never had any contact with them. Its just me and a couple people that are willing to foster for me should the need arise. NO breeding done here.

And as far as the USDA goes yes you do need to have a license and I am in the process of doing that as well as a business license for the state and a PACFA license. I just started the process the end of last year it is VERY confusing, there are a lot of hurtles to jump through and a lot of stuff I am still gathering information on which is why I am eager to talk with people who have done this before. I have a friend that runs her own dog rescue so she has helped me some but obviously she doesn't know the specifics for Sugar Gliders so I am on my own with that.
