Hi everybody,i am new to this forum my glider looks like she is about to explode. She has 2 huge lumps but i am not sure if there is just one Joey or two. This is there first time having Joeys but everything seems to be going great. Sometimes the female will clean her hands and stand up and open her pouch to clean the Joeys it looks like. Is that normal? Or are they supposed to leave them alone while in the pouch? is there any way i can tell if the Joeys are about to come out? When she comes out i can see at least one in there when she moves just right. They moved from their normal pouch to a bigger one and sometimes if the female comes out the male freaks out and tertius to get her to go back in.he seems very territorial right now.I'm so anxious i just want to see them so bad. Is it bag for me to peek in their nest? Or am i supposed to leave them alone until o.o.p?

Welcome to the site!! congrats!!
Yes, totally normal for mom to clean the babies in pouch. When you start seeing body parts (lets and tails) sticking out of the pouch it's only another week or two before they are actually "out".
If you are bonded with them, then it's fine to take them out as you normally would.
Since your new to the site and being a g-ma, do you mind if I ask what diet you feed? You wanna make sure mama gets extra protein, well extra everything so she can produce enough milk for the joeys.
Here's a great site - read everything on rejected joeys, and maybe start getting together a rejection kit just to be prepared. Also read up on breeding, it will tell you everything you need to know about joeys and their growth.

Thank you! They are currently on the bml diet (that's all i could get them to eat) but i don't use as much honey as it calls for i use a little bit of bee pollen. And organic fruits and veggies. I also give them meal worms and an egg (probably once every other week) thank you for the link it was very useful.do you have any suggestions for what i could give her for extra protein?

That's great!! I believe with BML you are fine:)
I feed HPW and I had to increase the powder - I would just make sure to give them plenty so you at least see a little leftovers in the morning:)
You have to keep us posted!!!

Bee Pollen and Egg are great. You could maybe sprinkle a little oatmeal over the fruits and veg. But just increase the protein you normally give.

Sounds like she has twins in her pouch. You'll start seeing limbs poking out soon, then a week later they may come fully out of the pouch, even tho for a few days they will still be able to fit back in. Don't really change anything, jsut spend time with them liek you would normally do, just being careful when you handle her not to prod and poke her pouch.

Definately have a joey rejection kit ready. Will these be her first? And how old is the female by the way? I have 2 girls who'v each just had twins. I've lost 2 of the joeys within the last 3 days, as awful as it is it definately helps to be prepared for the worst in regards to getting a joey rejection kit.

Good luck and keep us updated!x

Thank you all for your help! I really appreciate it : ) she is very young she just turned 12 months this month. The make is 15 monthsI will definitely start preparing a Joey rejection kit. I want to keep one of the babies so will i need to buy an extra cage to prevent breeding with the parents?

PVC cages are great if you want to save some money. That's what I'm slowing building now even though I only have two gliders :) I really would love a colony of 4-6 some day :) If you google "How to build a sugar glider cage out of pvc pipe" it comes up with several suggestions and instructions. such as Error, missing URL. p

Awe, you should neuter dad and keep them all together:)
If you have twins and give one away, the other will be lonely. Baby boys should be neutered between 14-16 weeks. And yes, dad will try and mate with his daughters.

Welcome to the site!
There's a great kit in the products section of the link you were already given.
www.suzsugargliders.com
She sells the complete kit so that you can be ready with everything you might need.
It sounds like you are doing great with diet and all. You can give a little boiled chicken to them a couple of times a week...boil it with no seasonings or oil, but you can use some apple juice in the water. ALso the egg is a great protein and can be used 2-3 times a week while she has joeys in pouch or nursing.
Where did you get your gliders from? We love photos around these parts. We'd love to see some of your fuzzbutts.

Thank you. I do give them boiled chicken sometimes but I never used apple juice that's agreat idea! I got the male first from a man in memphis that did not have enough time for him. Then a month later I got the female from a breeder that travels to tennessee from florida florida I've had them since they were joeys. I will take pictures when I get home and post : )
