Hi everyone, I've been peeking around this site, getting a feel for things. I've had lots of help so far from both the chat and a post. I'm (and my husband) are new keepers of 2 glider girls, aprox 1yr old. The family had gotten both of them last year from a MD breeder, the oldest (Lulu) she said they got last March and the younger one (Skadoosh) the following May. She needed to re-home them and I was looking for a young glider pair to add to my family, which consist of: my husband, myself, 4 grown children (not living with us), a granddaughter (hoping for more grandchildren to come), our dog Willow, and a small species bearded dragon (Rankin's), who is old and sadly will not be with us for too much longer. I have suffered the loss 2 Springs ago of my Leopard Gecko and miss him dearly. I keep the girls (gliders) and the dragon in separate rooms of coarse. But I felt a great gap in my heart, and decided on a pair of gliders to fill it. I'm going to attempt to post photos, however haven't done so on this forum as of yet, so please have patients if I don't get it right at first.

The girls came with what looked like a home-made wheel, I just ordered one & a nail-o-matic from Suncoast. So far I've ordered bonding pouches from them, and they ship fast. Nest should be a photo of their home. I've added some home-maid fleece vines since photo was taken.

I'm glad to see that you got your gliders to give you some love. :) I am a fairly new glider owner too and I love how sweet they are. :)

Also I have changed out the pouch (pink) that they came with for one of the new ones I got from Suncoast. The pink one was too small and they really couldn't use it properly. I like the ones from Suncoast. Here is updated photo of their home. I really can't wait till the new wheel gets here.

Thanks for the warm welcomes & condolences. I want to get a better shot of the girls to post on here, but they're so fast, lol. We have been spending much time both evenings and mornings with them to get them use to us. Skadoosh, the youngest one is very shy, but oh so sweet, hardly bites and if she does it's not too hard. Lulu, is pretty mean, especially if you disturb her slumber, but she will bite very hard at times. When they are out and running around on us they are so active, but we can get chances to pet them or when they are potty-ing or drinking their water, they let us pet them. They are both very curious, however, when in the bathroom with us, Skadoosh is more active and exploritorial then Lulu. I personally think that Lulu is a little smarter than Skadoosh also, she figures things out a little faster.
I only wish I could get them in their bonding pouch more often, it's so hard to get them in there.

Cute girls. They are going to be very happy in their new home.
Remove the string from the pouch hanging on the cage if you can. Strings with gliders, just like small children, can be dangerous if they get tangled in it with the string twisted around their neck.
Gliders can also get their sharp nails snagged in the loose knit of most socks. You may want to give them some fleece to play with rather than the socks.

Welcome to the forum! I am sure your new girls are going to bring you much happiness! I was also just going to mention, that the wheel looks like a Raptor Wheel to me. I just ordered one of those a couple of weeks back, and my gliders absolutely love it!!! Looks like your cage setup is coming along quite nicely. Thanks for sharing your story and your pics. Your babies are going to be so very happy in their new home!

Welcome! You will learn a lot of valuable information on this site, I certainly did and still am. I have ordered several things from Suncoast in the past and was very pleased with the products and fast delivery. Check out the Resources and Gliderpedia at the top of the page for cage necessities and vendors. I too am new to suggies so the only advice I will give is this.........Bribery. I hand feed them yogis (yogurt drops) and while they are eating I rub their little heads to show them that I am associated with something good. You can do this with any kind of treat including mealie worms. (I'm having to now cut back on the yogis,....I don't want fluffy gliders.) Lol

I guess it could be one of those, but it's chewed up and doesn't have cover on bolt, the outside looks like it has writing on it, like it was a lid to something, and it does look like it has a trimmer insert (just about 10" or so). The girls don't really run on it that much, at least not that i've seen or heard, lol. I'm hoping they like the new one that should be coming tomorrow. Thy don't seem to bother much with toys, they investigate when I put new in, but loose interest pretty fast.
Lulu is still biting, pretty hard at times (draws blood even). I had to put her in pouch and just keep her with me for about an hour this morning. I don't really like to separate them, I try to put her in the hold after she bites, (my husband does too), but my finger was really bleeding bad and I had to get a bandaid on it, so I put her in the pouch and read to her. I'm hoping she'll stop biting and being so nasty, Skadoosh is sweet, but both still haven't bonded with us as of yet.

I hope "the hold" is not the thumb in the glider's mouth recommended by Pocket Pets. That will NOT BUILD TRUST between you and your glider.
Gliders usually respond to a sharp Pssssst sound that lets them know biting is not OK. Watch your glider closely. Most will give a hint that they are going to bite - make the Pssst sound before the bite if you can. It will usually stop them and allow you to distract them with a treat or interesting toy before they bite.
Trust building takes time and patience but it is the key to preventing your glider from biting which is their natural defense to something that frightens or threatens them.
